Preventive measures should be taken because that is definitely better than having to deal with the long-term devastating effects of STDs. Aside from prevention, there must be medical awareness. In the constant battle against this disease, one should know everything about the enemy that is STDs. STDs in its many forms is basically just viral and bacterial in nature. Bacterial STDs are treatable but will take a long time and great expense. Viral STDs are more damaging – physically, emotionally and financially. Some STDs do not even show symptoms so it is very difficult to detect if you are exposed to this disease. That is why it is important for you to get tested regularly if you are sexually active because you may never know if you have an STD that just shows no symptoms. Being a victim of STD can cause a great deal of emotional, mental and physical stress both to the patient and the people he interacts with. Patients often experience great embarrassment and are ostracized in society. People with STDs lose their jobs, their place in society and even love from their family and friends. On top of all these emotional issues, they suffer physically for STDs often cause other medical complications leading to other damaging diseases. Chlamydia, Genital Herpes (HSV-2), Genital Warts, Gonorrhea, Hepatitis B (HBV), HIV, Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID), Pubic Lice (Crabs or HPV), Syphilis, Trichomoniasis and Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) are the specific types of STDs.
