Would you date somone with diabetes who wears an insulin pump?
5Question : Would you date somone with diabetes who wears an insulin pump?
If you met a really good person who had diabetes and wore an insulin pump, would that deter you from dating them?
The reason I ask is because I wear a pump and lately I have been bummed out thinking how no one would really want to date a guy with a pump. Seems like diabetes would be a deterent.

I don’t see how an insulin pump is really that much of an issue.

Diabetes pump for a one yr old?
2Question : Diabetes pump for a one yr old?
My baby was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes last summer when he was 8 months old. My 12 yr old daughter was also diagnosed at that age. We are currently in the process of getting her on a pump, but my doc also told me to get the baby on a pump. She said it would be a life saver. Has anyone else had their little tiny ones on a pump? Did the baby do well with the pump attached all the time? Was it better than shots every few hours?
Your input would be appreciated greatly
Thanks,
Julie

My son is 14 and thinking of going on the pump, but at the clinic they said they had a 1 year old on a pump and the family were doing well with it. She had it clipped onto the back of her babygro and it didn’t bother her in the slightest. I personally think that the younger they are the quicker they will adjust to it as it will be the ‘norm’ as they grow up
good luck

My daughter has the Medtronic Minimed 712 and we LOVE it. She was diagnosed at age 8 and went on the pump about 10 months later. She is now 11 and doing great ! The control is much tighter as the amount of insulin given is based precisely on your insulin sensitivity and your blood sugar and the carbs ingested at that moment rather than eating in a carb range to counter the shot you took hours earlier. If you are interested in the minimed you should check out the minimed website http://www.minimed.com/ and try the pump school online. It will tell you everything you need to know about using this pump. Good luck !
Should I get a diabetes pump?
3Question : Should I get a diabetes pump?
I have diabetes, and I’m using the novalog pen. I’ve been seriously considering getting the insulin pump, and already told my dad to call my doctor and schedule an appointment to get educated on one. My Dad’s kind of lazy, so he hasn’t called yet, so I need to know, is the pump better then the novalog?

I have a 15-year-old son and he has been pumping for the past six years. It has revolutionized his life. There are very few boundaries with a pump. Want to go play a sport? Turn down the pump and go. Want to have pizza after wards? Go for it! It not only made his life better, but it frees up the family and their routines. Let’s face it: if there is a diabetic in the house, their schedule (meals anyway) is everyone’s schedule!
My son is not a breakfast eater and it was always such a drama to get him to eat breakfast when he was on MDI…he just wasn’t hungry and here I was forcing oatmeal down him because, hey, the clock says it’s time to eat. Thanks to the pump, he only has to eat when he is hungry.
He started on the Cozmo (which is no longer in production), but for the past year and a half has been on the Omnipod. No tubing to get caught on things! He really likes it.
Good luck and really research the various pumps out there. I have a feeling you’ll love it!

Hi Amber H,
I am sorry for your predicament. As a Registered Nurse I am looking after a diabetic patient in Australia. My diabetic patient gets all supplies free. In most industrialized countries health care is free except the US. I know this does not help you. Have you considered moving to Canada?
Other more acceptable ways of obtaining free supplies include pleading poverty and calling the following agencies:
1. Your local hospital.
2. Your GP
3. Your Senator
4. Your church

Is there any resources ou there to help people with diabetes to cover cost of pump supplies?
2Question : Is there any resources ou there to help people with diabetes to cover cost of pump supplies?
I am a diabetic that is currently using an insulin pump for my diabetes management and I have insurance but the insurance that I have does not cover the extra costs with the pump supplies, which is huge. I am not the only one with this issue I am sure. My fear is that I will have to stop using the insulin pump because of the cost which will take away the one thing that has made me feel like a normal person again or as close to as can be. I feel that there are companies making huge amounts of money from the people that have diabetes whom have no other choice but to make them richer because if they don’t they die, there just seems to be an imbalance there. So please if there is any one out there that might have any ideas that can be done with this unfair imbalance of the american way.

I’m about to get the pump and the glucose monitor. I’m curious about having both attached to my body but I’ve got to get my blood sugars under control and this seems like the best way to do. Thanks!!!
