Question : Gallstones – anyone else had bad diarrhea with mucus?
Two months ago my bile duct became blocked which caused me to have jaundice and affected my liver and pancreas. I had an ERCP to widen my bile duct and also an MRI scan which showed all was ok except for the gallstones These were discovered after an ultrasound scan. I have hundreds of gallstones and my gallbladder is quite enlarged. I am awaiting a date to have my gallbladder removed. Last week i suffered 4 gallstone attacks, ranging from pressure , vomiting to severe pain ,one session lasted almost 24 hours. The past three days the pain etc has gone but I now have really bad diarrheaa, yellow in colour with mucas. I am running to the loo all the time. I am very careful with my diet and fats in fact im scared to eat anything right now. Has anyone else had this? is this related to the gallstones or is something else going on ? I will see my consultant in 2 days but thought I would ask if anyone else had had this experience.

Mucus: The Key To Solving Your Sinusitis Problems
1With over 30 million adults suffering from sinusitis you’d think by now that an adequate treatment would have been discovered. It is estimated that 15 billion doctor visits are attributed to sinusitis. Why so many and why aren’t people finding results? It all resolves around the fact that most doctors are not focused on the cause and merely treat the symptoms. They ignore the fact that all sinusitis symptoms revolve around excessive mucus production. That is where the focus should be.
So let’s take a look at sinusitis mucus production.
Mucus is produced by the sinus cells on a basal level. It is an important biological component of the filtering system that our sinuses are in charge of. Environmental pollutants and debris gets stuck in this thick layer. This ensures that irritants don’t gain access to the lower respiratory tract, which would be very detrimental. The sinus cells have long projections coming out of the top called cilia, which acts as a sweeper, pushing and sweeping this debris laden mucus either to be spit out or swallowed. A beautiful coordinated system of filtration.
It only make sense that if the sinus cells are damage or irritated by some airborne debris, excessive mucus production would occur. We’ve all experienced this. If the cells cannot sweep the debris out then more and more mucus is produced, eventually blocking the small passageways that lead from the sinus to your nasal cavity. This blockage is the starting of sinusitis.
With that understanding let’s look at the most common treatments; decongestants and antibiotics.
Antibiotics are aimed at killing bacteria. Can bacteria cause this excessive mucus production – absolutely but usually it’s the other way around. This excessive mucus production from some other cause creates the best environment for bacteria to overgrow and it decreases the amount of natural antibiotics substances that the sinus cells secrete. So antibiotics are great at reducing bacteria overload, which will temporarily resolve symptoms if bacteria is involved but it will not get rid of excessive mucus production.
How about decongestants, they reduce mucus production right? Yes they do, but think about what this does. There is something there causing irritation and reducing the mucus will allow this irritant to stay there. Thus once stopping the decongestant you’ll be right back to that excessive mucus production.
Combining all the thoughts above it makes sense that to truly clear up sinusitis we must allow the mucus production with proper drainage. Sounds easy right, well it is and that’s why our office has had such great success with our sinusitis patients.
Many turn to netti pots and sinus irrigation techniques to remove excessive mucus buildup. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don’t. I prefer to use them once the mucus blockage has been removed. The most powerful way to do this is by using an Ayurvedic medicinal oil, preferably containing Guggal, Eucalyptus and Ginger. This medicinal oil, when rubbed over the sinus passages (on our face) increase local blood flow to the region. This blood flow creates a higher local temperature that “melts” the mucus plug. It also causes the mucus to be more viscous which will increase the chances that the offending irritant will be adequately removed this time. Within minutes of this technique most patients find significant relief.
I suggest doing this facial rub for at least 7 days and then switching to a netti pot or steam inhalation for a few weeks after to make sure you’ve adequately removed the irritant. Don’t forget to add some good essential oils to the steam inhalation.
