Question : is it to late to close the space made for implants and just reshape my cuspids/canines to look like incisors?
i was born without lateral incisors, and i got braces in 7th grade and im in 9th grade now. i was getting my teeth pushed back for future implants and now getting spaces made for it. My parents(asian) didnt know anything about dentistry well before and well chose this route for me. Now today dont want this route. So i am wondering if its to late to close my gaps and undo all this work. i know it would be a waste of work my dentist did but i thought hard on this from the answer on last question. Before i got the spaces i had my cuspids right next to the two front teeth. . I am wondering if i can close that space that was suppose to be for implants and just reshape my cuspids to look like incisors. This was one of the options WAYY before but my DAM parents had to choose this route. I was to young and in fact i cried many times about implants and “fake teeth” and whined i just want to get my teeth shaped. Sigh… If i do CLSOE the gap and RESHAPE the cuspids Would it look good/ real? or obviously fake? Would my smile look as good as a smile with implants? i havent talked to my dentist about this and not sure how he will handle this. My parents are asian and so is the dentist so i can imagine him being VERY angry or asking WHY DO YOU WANT TO CLOSE IT HUH? the gaps he made made me lose so much self esteem. In school i am one of those “popular guys” but im afraid to talk to girls or meet new people now because im so insecure about those huge spaces. this is what the space looks like http://www.dental-implants.com/Laterals/pre-op.jpg (note this is not my teeth just a simliar picture) the gaps were increased to that but a little larger. So is it to late to close this gap? Is it a smart choice? I dont want to wear a retainer / stuff in 10th-12th grade…. How long would it take to close the gap? Im in a emotional blur right now i was recently just taking it all out… Please help me ;(. Will it be a real bad choice if i choose to close this gap and reshape it? would it look retardish? I really do not want to live up with fake retainer/ until 18 when i get implants…

iam not an emo kid and im really happy. thats the problem i LOVE to smile but i hold it in. Thats why my old friends know me as so funny and stuff but now im becoming more dull and insecure. And especially to girls. Lets say im a hot guy until i smile. Please help. Im under emotional distress. SO FELLOW dentists/orthodontists/people with experience. I WILL LOVE YOU IF YOU PROVIDE ME WITH DETAILS AND WHAT I SHOULD DO!!!!

HELLO,
the most important thing before considering implants is to maintain adequate space.
A removable flipper, aka interim partial denture can do just that.
When you are ready there will be enough space for the implants.

ok first of all im a sophomore in hgih school who just turned 16… So looks DO matter to me.

i am very self concious of my smile and it stings me that i used to be really outgoing before i got braces and my teeth fixed.

i have braces and my teeth were moved for two 1/2 years to get spaces for bridge/implants in future, but is not finished and was being done by a gneral dentist and im going to the most profesional orthodontist in my state now.

my choices are to move the teeth back together or continue my post treatment.

I want to move my teeth together and make my canines replace the insicors. then i want to get cosmetic solutions to make my canine look like incisors. what do they do to make it look like incisors? Do they slap on a porclain veneer? do they use composite bonding?

Or i can continue and get a invasglin tray with fake teeth until implants. But come on now who wants that? im a sophomroe and i cant imagine going through high school like this. i also feel that it will never ever match(colors) because in smiles they will mismatch in color. I feel like i ****ed my life over by making my teeth spread out with empty spaces on my smile. \

I want some pros and cons. i want to know what i should do. People say implants but most likely dont really understand my situation. Its a later and LONG and TIMELY/COSTLY solution and in the end they sometimes dont look great. But ion the otherhand if i mvoe my teeth together i stil have natural teeth and i can just get porclain veneers/reshaping/compostie resin to make my smile look great. What to do? Will moving it back together affect my face structure/jaw? Do moving the teeth together look great too? Any pics will be welcome.

It will take time and cost more money to move your canines with their big roots back to place. To get the eye teeth to be smaller looking like a lateral incisor, will require a large amount of tooth to be removed so that a porcelain crown will be placed on it. Also your first bicuspids would have to be ground down to have crowns or veneers placed on them to make them look like canines. 4 teeth ground down. Unless you are in your twenties, the pulp chambers of the cuspids will be too large to safely remove the tooth structure needed to make them look like laterals. After all of this is done, it would still not look as nice as the implant solution. You will end up spending more money, take more time, have more risk to your other teeth, and still end up with not a nice end result. So if you decide to go this way, don’t say you were not warned.

I understand where you are coming from, i wouldnt want gaps in my teeth either.
i personally would prolly do the veneers or lumineers just because i wouldnt want the gaps.
i dont think they would put bonding on
but my two front teeth are just about complelty 100% fake because i fell nd chipped them on a metal chair, they put bonding stuff on my teeth nd you honestly cannot tell a difference between my real teeth nd fake, no one knows enless i tell them nd its not like they can notice, they have so many different color bonding material to match peoples teeth.

EDIT** but wouldnt it take a while to get your teeth back to no gaps?? it might be better just to keep the gaps nd have the implants because it might not take as long…
