She counts on what she eats for example 8 fries a half of a half of a half of a hamburger some chips icing off of a 25 cent cakes and then drinks to much where she can’t handle herself. Her family watches her and doesn’t do anything cause her whole family got problem. I knew her my whole life and I feel like she killing herself faster. Then she does drugs and sleeps around. It’s killing me knowing thy she killing herself. She excises over and over everyday without eating much and doing all kinds of drugs sleeping around. Why can I do for her? I really wanna do an intervention but if she doesn’t wanna help herself than how can I?

I’m sorry,
but there is nothing you can do.
I know you want to help,
but this is HER problem,
and if she wants to change,
she will find THE RIGHT help.
This is HER decision and NOT YOURS!
I know it’s hard to watch your friend do this to herself,
but you can’t blame yourself for what SHE is doing.
SHE will figure things out if she wants another healthier life style.
HOPE THIS HELPS!

Bulimic friend in denial and… other problems?

Question : Bulimic friend in denial and… other problems?
**This might be kind of long, very detailed and some might find it gross, so you’re warned, no leaving stuff like “Ew! That’s gross!” or “Too much info.”

She says she doesn’t do it anymore, but I know she does and her parents because of something that just beyonds grosses me out. She would throw up in bottles, like Gatorade bottles, two liter soda bottle, etc. and save them. This got found out by her parents because she spent the night at my house and her room smelt like vomit and they searched for the smell and found I think, over tens fair sized bottle filled with vomit. She hid them all over her room. She told she stopped a month ago and that those are old. Her mom says they’re not because the vomit would’ve fermented and these didn’t. My friend claims they didn’t because they were preserved in bottles with caps on. I actually believed her that she stopped and that the bottles were a month old like she claimed. That was until… I found a coke can filled with vomit under my bed, on the side she sleeps on when she sleeps over. My dad said my room smelled bad and I didn’t notice it because I’m guessing I got used to the smell in her room and got used to it here. She’s been going to these therapy group things for people with eating disorders and she has herself convinced that she’s not doing it anymore. I know she’s lying because she just spent the night less than a week ago and that can wasn’t there before because just before she came over I was looking under my bed for a pair of shoes and I looked everywhere under it, including there. I just don’t know what to do. I know it’s a very serious problem and I’m pretty sure the first step to getting better is to admit you have a problem, which she constantly denies. I am so confused. Basically I need advice on how to deal with her and what to do about her throwing up and leaving it in my house in beverage containers. She comes over all the time and I don’t want to say no because her home isn’t exactly great. I want to help her, but talking about her problems hasn’t done a thing and or either anything else people I’ve talked to suggested.

My best friend suffered fom bulimia and unfortunatley there is not a lot you can do if she will not admit she has a problem. tell her you are worried about her and that she needs to get help, while a group is fine, going to the doctor is better as they can monitor her and if neccessary have her committed to an instituiton where they will force her to eat AND keep it down. offer to go with her, and while the thought of her being locked up might be scary, sometimes it is needed to save their life, and because they are scheduled they have no choice in leaving. if she enjoys staying at oyur house because of things at home, then be harsh with her and say that you will not accept that behaviour and she can not stay over if she is going to keep doing this to herself. be firm, she might hate you for it at first but eventually she will thank you for caring so much.

My friend says that she brags about having an eating disorder.?

5

Question : My friend says that she brags about having an eating disorder.?
She says that she has Body Dysmorfic Disorder. A placebo diagnosis, in my opinion. I can tell that she doesn’t. Everyone can tell. But no one wants to tell her the truth. And the funny thing is that she is proud say she has one. I think she just wanted something wrong with her to fit in. But she doesn’t have anything close to an eating disorder. It’s just really annoying that she is that niave and stupid to actually want one.

plus the only time she somewhat had the “symptoms” of an ed was when we were researching them for a project.

What do you guys think?
she went to a doctor and was diagnosed with bdd. That’s why i thought it was a placebo diagnosis. She doesn’t have any of the symptoms other than she thinks she is fat. But i know a lot of other people who think they are too. I can’t say i’ll get her some help because that’s exactly what she wants. To fit in with everyone by haveing a “mental problem” like everyone esle.

I personally think it seems like maybe she’s attention starved, its a scary thing to lie about though. If she brags and the wrong person hears her she could get in alot of trouble, well not trouble per-say but i doubt shed like being locked up in a psych hospital and put on meds to stable her imaginary condition.

I think my friend has anorexia…?

1

Question : I think my friend has anorexia…?
My friend has a problem eating and excercizing excessively. I looked up the symptoms of anorexia on one website and she fits into 80% of the symptoms. I’ve been very worried about her but she never listens to me when i tell her to eat. She goes to the Y every day after school and won’t go to this church activity tomorrow because it interferes with her planned 5 hour workout. She invites me to go and for a few days I’ve been declining because I feel uncomfortable working out with her. I compliment her a lot and tell her she’s not fat, but i feel like it’s partly my fault because when at the beginning of the school year, I made a resolution with her to get in shape, and I was working out every so often. But I actually ate lunch and breakfast, while she wouldn’t eat anything. That’s when I got worried and sort of stopped the gym outings. But she didn’t. She will have a gym class at school and then work out another 2 hours, and she never wants to hang out with me because she’s trying to work out ALL the time! and she won’t eat anything!! Only today did i see her actually eat a salad for lunch. What do I do?? I’m stuck because she hates counselors and the one counselor at our school would tell my friend who told her about the problem and plus, I am her only friend that is openly worried about her and she would know i told. If i tell her mom though, I think that will be bad as well because her mom is one of the main causes (i.e. she tells her to do more classes at the Y with her, work out more, offers to maybe get her a personal trainer even though shes NOT EVEN REMOTELY FAT) and her mom also has a form of excercise anorexia. Is there any hotlines for me to call or something, that i could just ask for advice, even though I don’t have the problem? I don’t know who to turn to and my family is understanding, but they can’t really do much and my friend gets mad at me. HELP!
I want to talk to the counselor, but i KNOW that she hates counselors and my counselor is not very good. She would tell my friend that i told on her!! I may tell her as a last resort. But i am really wanting like a hotline to call.

Sometimes it takes time for a friend to tell someone about things like this. The only thing that you can do is just let her know that you are there for her! Just try to say something to upset her and make her think that. You can always talk to a counsler at school they would be able to help you out more!

I think you mean “haven’t been able to regulate his glucose”. There are a lot of variables but diabetes onset can indeed cause a lot of the symptoms you describe. Actually, all of those things happened to me.

Weight loss comes from the body not being able to absorb glucose (insulin resistance) and turning instead to fat energy reserves. This is the leading cause of ketoacidosis. The brain and heart both run almost exclusively on glucose.

Dehydration, I am told, is from the kidneys being overwhelmed by the high blood glucose levels and flushing out what it can (frequent urination). Constant thirst results as well.
I have no idea about the drugs.

Tell him to talk to a doctor etc. etc. etc.

How do I help a friend who has bipolar depression?

5

Question : How do I help a friend who has bipolar depression?
A friend of mine has been going through some hard times and was recently diagnosed with bipolar depression. This means that some days he is active and able to do lots of things, but other days he doesn’t have the will to get out of bed, much less do anything productive.

Anyway, he recently moved back to the area and is now living kind of close to me (30 mins. driving). He doesn’t have many other friends in the area, and his illness keeps him from getting out very much and meeting new people. So, in many ways I feel as though I am his only source of friendship now. Also, it’s really difficult to stay in touch with him. When he is depressed, he won’t answer e-mails or telephone calls, much less return messages.

In some ways I feel like I can’t do much because if I can’t talk to him and hang out, how can I continue to be friends with him? But I also feel that, as a friend, I should stick with him through the hard times and do my best to help.

What can I do to help my friend?

I dont want my friend to get an eating disorder……….?

2

Question : I dont want my friend to get an eating disorder……….?
My friend is 5’2 and 110-115 pounds. Well the thing is I used to think I was fat and I would tell her that, but I am and always was at a normal weight and since then I have had more confidence. My friend would always be like “ya, ur so fat” (jokingly) and then I would be like “ur so fat too” (jokingly) and then she would be like “no im not fat” and now all of a sudden she thinks she is fat and wants to lose weight. she has reaaaaaaaaaly skinny legs. like one day when she was just randomly doing sit ups I asked why and shes like, “because i wanna lose weight” and im like ur skinny, u dont need to lose weight, why do u want to lose weight? and then shes like, because i dont like the way I look. so im just like “learn to like the way you look” and then she just walked off. I dont want her to get an eating disorder, but i also dont want to talk to her about it like a cheesy intervention, so how could i drop hints? pleeeeeeeez help me.

My boyfriends friend may have an eating disorder? Help… (Go down to the starred question?)?

Question : My boyfriends friend may have an eating disorder? Help… (Go down to the starred question?)?
First of all, I just left Sheppard Pratt (CED center for eating disorders) a few months ago and am still in recovery mode. BUT I really think my boyfriend’s friend may have an eating disorder… The problem is… if I had to define my boyfriend and his friends, it would be “scene/emo” (I hate labeling though) they’re just really reserved people, except my boyfriend (with me).

But then I think to myself, “Hey, you don’t even know this kid, why are you assuming things?”
But I do know what my gut is telling me… =/ Very very skinny kid. Not “naturally” skinny as much as he is I mean. And he rarely eats lunch and usually stays out of the cafeteria. My boyfriend said that he rarely eats when they hang out too… and I know he feels uncomfortable when people at my table are talking about weight or something.

*****Just, how can I talk to him (In a non accusing way??) and let him know that I know what its like and I am here if he ever wants to talk…?***** or just get some peace of mind that he really is okay..

BTW, I barely know him… only b/c of my boyfriend.

I would avoid saying it directly to him.
You being a stranger talking about it would not help nor would he likely want to talk to you.
The best thing to do is let his loved ones(if he has any/if not his friends) know and convince them to take him to a place to get the help he needs.
