Possibly bulimic…?

Question : Possibly bulimic…?
How do you know if you have an eating disorder? Is it an eating disorder if you really can control it? I’m not stuck in a binge/purge cycle, but sometimes I just eat too much and want to get rid of it, so I’ll throw it up or fast for a day or two. Is this bulimic? Is treatment neccessary? I don’t feel like I need it, and if I told anybody they’d totally overeact and be all weird about it. Should I?

I don’t know if 3 months is enough time to do damage. He might make a note of it and choose to keep an eye on it and mention it later if it seems to continue to be a problem.

Bulimic friend in denial and… other problems?

Question : Bulimic friend in denial and… other problems?
**This might be kind of long, very detailed and some might find it gross, so you’re warned, no leaving stuff like “Ew! That’s gross!” or “Too much info.”

She says she doesn’t do it anymore, but I know she does and her parents because of something that just beyonds grosses me out. She would throw up in bottles, like Gatorade bottles, two liter soda bottle, etc. and save them. This got found out by her parents because she spent the night at my house and her room smelt like vomit and they searched for the smell and found I think, over tens fair sized bottle filled with vomit. She hid them all over her room. She told she stopped a month ago and that those are old. Her mom says they’re not because the vomit would’ve fermented and these didn’t. My friend claims they didn’t because they were preserved in bottles with caps on. I actually believed her that she stopped and that the bottles were a month old like she claimed. That was until… I found a coke can filled with vomit under my bed, on the side she sleeps on when she sleeps over. My dad said my room smelled bad and I didn’t notice it because I’m guessing I got used to the smell in her room and got used to it here. She’s been going to these therapy group things for people with eating disorders and she has herself convinced that she’s not doing it anymore. I know she’s lying because she just spent the night less than a week ago and that can wasn’t there before because just before she came over I was looking under my bed for a pair of shoes and I looked everywhere under it, including there. I just don’t know what to do. I know it’s a very serious problem and I’m pretty sure the first step to getting better is to admit you have a problem, which she constantly denies. I am so confused. Basically I need advice on how to deal with her and what to do about her throwing up and leaving it in my house in beverage containers. She comes over all the time and I don’t want to say no because her home isn’t exactly great. I want to help her, but talking about her problems hasn’t done a thing and or either anything else people I’ve talked to suggested.

My best friend suffered fom bulimia and unfortunatley there is not a lot you can do if she will not admit she has a problem. tell her you are worried about her and that she needs to get help, while a group is fine, going to the doctor is better as they can monitor her and if neccessary have her committed to an instituiton where they will force her to eat AND keep it down. offer to go with her, and while the thought of her being locked up might be scary, sometimes it is needed to save their life, and because they are scheduled they have no choice in leaving. if she enjoys staying at oyur house because of things at home, then be harsh with her and say that you will not accept that behaviour and she can not stay over if she is going to keep doing this to herself. be firm, she might hate you for it at first but eventually she will thank you for caring so much.

I cant control how much I eat when I eat, ive always been someone who finishes all the food in front of them. My friends keep telling me I look really skinny, im very happy with my weight loss but I know I cant continue to throw up or I could end up dead or with major problems. I havent told anyone, help!

My body purges on it’s own, sort of bulimic question?

Question : My body purges on it’s own, sort of bulimic question?
Okay so this has been going on for awhile and I have always been confused. Especially as I am checking into a bulimic treatment program soon and as I was exploring the website for it and the characteristics of bulimia, I could never find anything quite like this.

So I’ve never actually stuck anything down my throat, my body just sort of throws the food up on its own. It doesn’t throw up everything. When I drink liquids, especially diet pop it throws it up a lot more often. Also it does the same thing with dairy products like ice cream and cottage cheese. Another thing is that I tend to eat my food more quickly.

I’m just wondering why my body does this on its own when I have never actually “self inflicted” it. Also, when this happens it is very rarely, if ever, stomach acid that comes up. It’s just the chewed up food. Has any one ever experienced this or have an idea what it is?
Another thing is that I do tend to eat a lot because I can’t keep much down and I am hungry. I wouldn’t say I binge eat, but I do eat more then some people so that I don’t feel starving.

I wonder if you have a gastritious problem? The foods you’ve mentioned contain gas causing ingredients. As does eating fast. Just my take. Good luck.

Should you go to a treatment center if you think you’re bulimic?

Question : Should you go to a treatment center if you think you’re bulimic?
So… about a year ago I just started feeling really bad and not in control of my life. I usually just sat in my room and cried and screamed all night. But about three/four months ago I was introduced to the BP system. I don’t remember how, but I do remember that I became very closely attached very quickly. I would do it 6-10 times a day. And I just started realizing in the last couple of weeks that this is bad and I might have an eating disorder. I tried to just quit… I went a whole day without overeating and purging! The next day, though, I made up for it tremendously. I can’t not do it. I’m not going to say that I have to do it, but I definitely no longer want to do it. I just need to. It’s a familiar routine that makes me feel safe, secure, and powerful. I feel as if when I do it that I can control myself and my life and that what people say about me doesn’t matter. When I’m lying awake at night, staring at the wall, unable to sleep, it gives me something to do instead of cry and watch on as other people take over my thoughts.

But I believe there are other(better) ways to feel powerful and wonderful and strong in this world. And I want those ways. I want help. I want recovery.

So the question is that I was wondering if 3-4 months is even bulimia and if it’s severe enough to get treatment at a center. I think that would work best for me. Keep in mind that I am thirteen years old. Okay. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

How can I help a bulimic friend?

8

Question : How can I help a bulimic friend?
I have a friend, and I’m almost positive she’s bulimic. She’s TINY. She’s about 5′, and like 80 pounds. She’s skin and bones. Her teeth are very discolored, which I know is a result of bulimia. Today she sang the National Anthem at her graduation, and she has an amazing voice, but it kept cracking, and it wasn’t the normal sort of crack that comes from being nervous or dry. I’m so worried about her. My mom had a bulimic friend who died of it. Is there something where I can report her problem to refer her to some sort of treatment? I’m pretty close to her, but I don’t feel like the relationship is close enough that I can talk to her about it.

Any help at all would be very appreciated. Thanks!

What’s the big deal with being bulimic? Can I fight treatment?

4

Question : What’s the big deal with being bulimic? Can I fight treatment?
My parents want to have me put in the hospital for having bulimia.
I don’t get it- I could stop at any time if I wanted to and it’s not like I’m sick or anything. It’s not even that weird when you think about it, I don’t get why they’re being so evil about it. Really, they’re being so mean and horrible. I chose to do this so I can stop on my own.
Do I have any say in this? I’m 17 years old, do I have to listen to my parents/ doctors if I can prove that I don’t need treatment?

You are still a minor – tough luck.

And you might just be too dumb to realize what you are doing to yourself. People die from bulimia. Your parents are worried about you – and they still have control.

Even if you were older they could have you committed to a hospital if they can prove you are a danger to yourself.

Best treatment for obese bulimic?

Question : Best treatment for obese bulimic?
I’m 21, struggled w/anorexia and bulimia in the past and am now considered obese…and stuck. If I try any diet, I end up restricting…or purging but my metabolism is at a standstill. Any advice? I want to exercise but it’s almost painful, as my huge boobs like bouncing around and I get tired so fast… Being obese is just as bad for my health as when I was almost underweight. Thanks :)

Start by walking and just eating healthy! I know it’s hard when you’ve had eating habits like you’ve had in the past.

But yeah, easing into is the best way to go. Start with walking and then you can start running as that gets easier. Also getting a supportive sports bra would be a good idea to make it more comfortable. They have a nice selection at Target!
