Can my parents legally make me go to treatment for bulimia? Help, please!?

Question : Can my parents legally make me go to treatment for bulimia? Help, please!?
I’m 17 years old. My parents found out that I purge after eating. They sent me to see a therapist (who doesn’t even specialize in Eating Disorders), and after finding out I’ve been doing this over two years, she made me attend an outpatient program for two weeks. I didn’t “improve” so they’re making me go to an inpatient program in another state?!? I’m a senior in high school, I will be 18 in July, I only have a few months of school left- I don’t want to spend these best months of my life in a treatment center away from my friends.

How can I make them stop?! I tried to express my concerns but no one would hear it- not even my therapist!!! I’m not even bulimic, I barely have any problem, sure I throw up sometimes but does that make it ok to do this to me?!

Do I legally have to go to this center? Do I have any other options?

Thank You.

Would you expect wight-gain when treated from Bulimia Nervosa?

Question : Would you expect wight-gain when treated from Bulimia Nervosa?
I have been a bulimic for 6 years now. I would rather say recently I switched to binge-eating disorder during my attempts to recover so I don’t compensate now, but then I binge and go on a 4-day diet to lose what I ate. I went to a pshychatrist and the meal-plan she gave me, I tried and it makes you gain weight and she said I have to eat all that everyday. my stomach hurts what a hell. So, am I supposed to gain weight for a while until cured and THEN lose it back in a HEALTHY WAY?
I am not underweight, I have a BMI of 23, so I am on the border of obesity ( BMI’s have been modified only for South Asians because we are at higher risks of diabetes) so 23 is about obese. HOW TO BE TREATED FROM BULIMIA OR BING-EATING DISORGER? HOW ABOUT IN-PATIENT TREATMENT? is it the best way?

what can I do? I want to recover in one year only or less, please help…
thank u

this is a really complex question, and honestly, i can’t tell you anything with 100% certainty without being a medical professional and without knowing you. however, i’ll try my best to answer your questions using what experience i have (i’m a recovering anorexic).
first, it is technically ‘compensating’ if you diet to extremes after a binge, but i’m pretty sure it’s better than purging (congratulations on overcoming that). i’m not sure about the recovery plan for bulimics, although i do have a few bulimic friends. it would seem rational to me that your recovery would mostly focus on returning you to a point where you don’t feel as though you have to purge and you can eat in a healthy manner. my assumption about that has always been that a bulimia treatment plan would mostly focus on preventing the binge-and-purge cycle rather than forcing you to gain weight, but i don’t really know. i would think that if you can eat a normal day’s worth of food without restricting or purging, that would be considered a step in recovery.
as far as inpatient treatment, there isn’t one way that is best for everyone, but if you feel like that’s what you need, you should seriously consider it and talk it over with your doctor or someone who’s overseeing your treatment. if you want to recover quickly, inpatient treatment offers a really intense program and if you’re open-minded and want to get something from it, i would think that it would benefit you a lot, but everyone’s different. for me, inpatient treatment made things more difficult, but most of my friends with eating disorders (especially those who are recovered) say that it helped them a ton.
good luck in your recovery!

Bulimia made me meaner?

Question : Bulimia made me meaner?
So I have Bulimia and went to a Rehab center for eating disorders and I stopped purging (purging & restricting meals) but before I went to the Center place When i would purge it gave me a Temporary Numb-Satisfaction feeling with myself like I was Okay with being “me” for a while. But now hat I’ve stop purging Now I am so miserable with my self I am so uncomfortable inside ( && I know I could always start re-purging but I don’t want to go back to the Rehab center place thats what’s keeping me from doing it). And now my mom is always trying to understand or whatever and then I snap at her and fuss and yell at her but I don’t mean to do it on purpose. I have a really great mom but I am so mean to her ever since I started doing all this. && when I snap at her and make her feel bad but really it cause i feel bad about myself.

&& I know this is a weird question but how do I stop it? && I know that I can’t blame it on Bulimia… but please tell me how to stop.

Thanks.
Red Ant – I hate everything about myself. I cant stand anything about me and you know if u dont like what u see then change but i tryed to change i really did.

You need to figure out what it is that’s really bothering you. I mean what is bothering you to the point of being bulimic? Being mean and snapping at your mother are only “side effects” and acting out. Figure out what it is you hate about yourself and start working on that.

Start telling yourself that you are a good person, as good as anyone. No one is better than you and you are better than no one. You are the equal of all others. Keep up that chatter in your head all day. Allow yourself to feel equal to all others. Nothing that you do and nothing that happens to you can change the fact that you are as good as anyone. You need to feel and think these things all day, get your friends to help you, maybe even start a support group if you know of others.

Seek medical help if and when you can.

Bulimia vs. Anorexia Nervosa:?

0

Question : Bulimia vs. Anorexia Nervosa:?
I’m not overweight, but I’m not underweight.. some people say I’m “skinny” (<- i don't ever believe them - and if i do, i feel i have to "live up to that expectation/belief" / the people who tell me this ARE actually skinny)

.. some people say I'm "normal/healthy/chubby" (<- which makes me feel like sh*t... but i just tell them "thanks".. cuz they apparently take it as a compliment? / the people who tell me this are usually normal weight) . I never had a great self-esteem though (no surprise :P )

I've been throwing up what I have eaten for the past 3 days (2 times/day). and it's becoming a terrible habit.. i even count unconsciously how many times i "have to throw up" so it's enough to get all the food that ive eaten (let's say, an hour ago) out (10 times is the "minimum amount" i set for myself - and i hate myself for doing it, but i cant stop myself - so i guess it's also a case of OCD too!?)

i'm not an over-eater though.. i think.. i have chocolates and a plate of rice and chips randomly, but i also exercise (i'm not obssessive about that, thankfully, but i do have to exercise/run on the treadmill for weight training @ school).........

i know the symptoms of ANY eating disorder is terrible, and no girl/boy/man/woman should have to go through that because of low self-esteem, and i hate myself for doing it.. but i cant stop because i have this constant ugly feeling... i suffered from random anorexia 3-4 years ago.. not eating for a couple of days, then eating small snacks for a day or two - then going back to starving --

i feel like my boobs (C-something low) and thighs (36-38.. depends on where i buy the jeans from) and baby face dont fit the rest of my body.. my arms and legs are "thin" compared to the rest of my body people say my collarbone and stomach jut out too much (hipbones/ribs)..

i dont understand.. and technically im not bulimic because i dont overeat/over-exercise.............................. so under "what category" would i be in??
plus, i think im having an irregular heartbeat........ :/

can somebody please give me advice on how to stop these odd eating habits, before i die mysteriously -____- and i dont want to call any eating disorder hotline thing.. those people just freak me out o_O

cheers x
