Question : Anorexia Nervosa + loss of bone marrow?
okay so my sister has had anorexia nervosa for 5 years now and is on her way to recovery, a few years ago, while she was in ICU getting treatment, the doctors noticed that she had lost bone marrow in her pelvis.
In bio at the moment we have been learning about the medical side of the disease and how the body literally eats itself from the inside(obviously more technical than that but u get the idea) i understand all the medical side to it, but what i dont understand is how the loss of bone marrow happened. Can anyone clear this up for me please?

This condition creates scar tissue in the stomach that cannot be repaired. The loss of the ability of the stomach to produce hydrochloric acid prevents good absorption of calcium, magnesium, and zinc in the small intestine. This creates a bad calcium deficiency and the lack of this mineral, in particular has a devastating effect on the bone.

Many people die of this problem and it is due to very bad nutritional deficiencies. It is an accelerated way to starve to death.

Question : Where is the evidence that osteoporosis causes bone fractures?
Please refer me to well-controlled, peer-reviewed studies that show:
1) Osteoporosis causes bone fractures.
2) Fosamax and other biophosphonates not only slow down bone density loss or increase bone density, but also prevent fractures.

Its common sense if the bones become less massive and deteriorate go on yahoo and do a image seach .The bones of women are 35 % less massive than men so they are more susucpetible to back problems than men so women should really taske it easy on there back.

Question : Do all bone fragments work themselves out after dental surgery?
I had major surgery back in November and all of a sudden I have a rather large…something, I guess a bone fragment, trying to poke through. What should I do? Will it come out by itsself in due time? Will it effect the stages of getting dental impressions done?

Bone fragments came take a while to surface. It will come out on it’s own. You may need to have your gums checked, call the oral surgeons office and talk to the nurse and go with what she/he says.

Yes, it can make a bad impression, especially if there is any swelling in your gums.

Question : Has anyone used an ultrasound stimulator on a bone fracture? Did it help healing?
I have a fracture on my right foot that has shown no signs of healing after 4 months. My Dr. suggested using an ultrasound stimulator to help with the healing process. I would like to know if anyone has used one and did it actually heal the bone? If this doesn’t work, I will need foot surgery.

Yeah, my brother had that as a last resort but he wasn’t covered with health insurance so it was expensive. He still has some pain with the injury, particularly in cold weather so he uses thermal socks which helps. Whichever way u go u really need to rest your foot until properly healed….good luck.
