My boyfriend is getting an IV sedation at the dentist tomorrow. What should I do after his appointment?

Question : My boyfriend is getting an IV sedation at the dentist tomorrow. What should I do after his appointment?
I’m driving him there and back. The dentist just said I need to “supervise” him, but didn’t elaborate. Some people said I needed to stay with him while he sleeps it off after the appointment, some people have said I can leave him alone (but still be in the same house) while he sleeps it off, and some people have said I can just leave him as soon as we get back home. What should I do?

He will be fine whichever you chose. He will be asleep anyway.

I had IV sedation for a colonoscopy recently. My husband drove me home and I slept from about noon to 4pm. It was a very deep sleep, I woke up, ate dinner and was fine. You could probalby put him to bed and go do something and check on him in a couple of hours.

They will put him in the recovery room after the dentist is done with him. They will keep him in there until he wakes up. As soon as he gets in the recovery room they will come and get you, and have you stay with him until he wakes up and from there you will have to drive him home. I have had that done once and also went with a friend once. He will be fine if you have someplace to go after you get him home. I was left shortly after I got home and was fine and also left my friend after I got him home. This is really the smart way to get dentistry work done.

some people that get an IV sedation (like me) have bad reactions to water and food for a couple days afterwards, so you may also want to pick up some pepto and 7up. The worse diet ever *ish*

You could just let him sleep it off, check on him every now and then, chances are if he is going to have a reaction it will be a few minuites after the drug is administered. I would stay with him, not leave him in the house all alone.
