Hi Maureen,
This hurting of your hip, thumb and finger joints – all point to arthritis only.
Arthritis treatment is specifically aimed at providing pain relief. It is important to discuss the medications with your physician as many of these agents have damaging side effects, especially when used long term as is the case in chronic conditions like arthritis.
More and more arthritis sufferers are turning to natural and holistic treatments because conventional medicine has failed to produce the desired results.
Natural arthritis pain relief can be obtained with treatments such as herbal and homeopathic remedies that are gentle and mild, yet effective and offer symptomatic relief. Ingredients such as Glucosamine can be used to provide natural arthritis pain relief and to repair cartilage and maintain joint mobility while Boswellia acts as a natural anti-inflammatory.
Clinical studies have proven the effectiveness of Devil’s Claw in treating joint conditions like osteo-arthritis, fibrositis, rheumatism and small joint disease. Other useful herbs for natural arthritis pain relief like Alfalfa (Medicago sativa) can help to soothe the affected area, in a gentle manner without harsh side effects – helping with the recovery process. Cayenne can also be used in an infused oil to rub into arthritic joints for added relief.
Remember to obtain all herbal and homeopathic remedies from a reputable source.

What I’ve found to be very helpful for the pain in my thumbs is all natural Alfalfa Complex. The roots of the alfalfa plant reaches as deep as 20 feet into the soil and brings forth minerals in their most natural form. It offers a wide range of nutrients: calcium, phosphorus, iron, magnesium, chlorophyll, bioflavonoids, trace minerals, and vitamins.
Hope this is helpful and feel free to contact me with questions.

For fingers and thumbs I like to just flex them a lot and then shake them over my head and open and close them or whatever for a few minutes several times a day. Try that and see how it feels. I feel that part of the problem as we age we get slower and as we do we don’t get enough exercise in our body to keep things moving properly. Then we have to do things to help out, but some kind of exercise program would be more beneficial to us in more ways than one. I strongly recommend a walking/jogging or swimming routine to keep joints limber and body functions running better.
Hips are of a different problem, they are usually because of the tendon joining them to your body. It likes to shrink, as they say, but can be lengthened back to it’s regular length so that things will function better for you. to do so try this: (in shorts)
While laying on your bed with legs pulled up and bent at the knee, feet flat on the bed. Take your hand and put it between your hip and body on the crease there. Run your hand down that crease until you hit the bump in the crease, about the same area as your pelvis. With your hand get the tendon that is there between your fingers and squeeze hard on it and hold. Relax your body, take a deep breath and exhale and don’t tense up any part of your body. After 30 seconds slowly let that leg fall outward as far as it will go. When it has come to rest, remove the pressure but rest your leg there for one minute longer. -

The 16 million American who suffer from osteoarthritis* tend to rely on aspirin, ibuprofen and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) to control their pain.
But NSAIDs do nothing to treat the under lying condition. Consequently,arthritiss pain tends toworsenn with time. In addition, NSAIDs can trigger a host of troublesome side effects, including digestivproblemsms and high blood pressure.
Worst of all, new evidence suggests that NSAIDs can aggravate arthritis by blocking synthesis of proteglycans, key molecules that help draw much-needed water unto dry, damaged joints.
Breakthrough: The daily use of two nutritionalal supplements-glucosamine and chondroitin-control pain, boost joint mobility and helps undo the cartilage damage that is the hallmark of osteoarthritis.
Glucosamine and chondroitin work together to block the action of cartilage destroying enzymes…promote the flow of water and nutrients into cartilage…and boost the activity of cartilage-producing cells called chondrocytes. The supplements have been proven effective in studies around the world.
Using the supplements
Glucosamine and chondroitin are available in most health food stores. They’re available without prescription, but it’s best to use them under the supervision of a sports medicine specialist, a rheumatologist or an orthopedic surgeon.
How much of each supplement should you take every day? That depends upon your body
Less than 120 pounds: 1,000 milligrams (mg) glucosamine…8000 mg chondroitin.
Between 120 and 200 pounds:1,500 mg glucosamine…-
-1,200 mg chondroitin.
More than 200 pounds: 2,000 mg glucosamine…1,600 mg chondroitin.
I tell my patients to divide each dose into halves, taking the first half in the morning, the second half in the evening-perferably with food.
Important: Potent as these supplements are, they are only part of an effective arthritis treatment regimen. Here are the other key components.
Antioxidants
thece tthe cartilage damage associated with arthritis is caused in part by cell-damaging free radicals, I urge my patients to take daily antioxidants. The “ACES” antioxidants are particularly effective at controlling free radical…
Internationalnatinal units (IU) a day.
* Vitamin C…4,000 mg a day.
* Vitamin E…400 IU a day.
* Selenium…200 micrograms (mcg) a day.
It’s also a good idea to eat foods rich in bioflavonoids. These compounds make collagen-the tough protein that is a primary constituent of cartilage-stronger ad less prone to inflammation.
Bioflavonnoid sources: Green tea, berries, onions, citrus fruits and pitted fruits, such as cherries and plums.
