Question : What do you know about sedation dentistry?
Due to prior torture at the hands of dentists when I was a child, I am scared to death of going to the dentist. I know that I really need to go and I’ve seen some commercials for “pain-free” and “worry free” dentists. From what I gather, they put you under conscious sedation (not exactly sure what that is either) and do all the dental work while you are basically asleep. Opinions?

my opinion is that hes wayyyyyy expensive where i live….. 400$ the first 30min…..40$ every 15min thereafter………they put you under sedation using an iv medication called versed…

Dont really know about their program, but in one of my psychiatric hospitalizations i was treated for anorexia nervousa (sp) and body dysphormia disorder. Just a big mixture of therapy groups finding the route of the problems and gettting you to eat again.

Question : How much does sedation dentistry usually cost?
I’m planning on getting sedation work done this fall. I’ve heard that most insurance companies wont pay for the sedation-does anyone know how much it generally costs for the sedation itself?

IV sedation is used mostly by Oral Surgeons/ Maxillo facial surgeons that perform Wisdom teeth extractions, or other facilal surgeries. If you have private insurance at 80%-100% coverage, it may already be covered. However they willl explain your patient portion at the dental visit. Note: IT IS NOT YOUR DECISION TO CHOOSE IV SEDATION JUST BECAUSE YOU WANT TO. Only the Dr. can suggest the type of sedation you will need. Because of many factors: reactions, necessity, requirement…………it depends on the procedure. Another option that you CAN request is NITROUS OXIDE (laughing gas). In which you are conscious of the procedure, but you are mostly relaxed…however you will still be given anesthesia: (Lidocaine, Septocaine, Marcaine, Citanest, whatever the doctor chooses) Before you are given the anesthesia some TOPICAL ANESTHETIC GEL will be swabbed in the injection site, to help comfort the needle. So like I mentioned, it depends on the procedur, insurance, and requirement. You may call your Dental Insurance as well, to find out your coverage. Good Luck!!!!

I ‘ve tried the medicaiddentistry site, but when i called the offices on the list they said that they don’t accept medicaid, so that list is not very accurate. do you know an office that does? or a site i can go to? please help. thank you :)

CALLING THE MEDICAID OFFICE & INSIST ON SPEAKING WITH SOME ONE THAT CAN SEND YOU A NEW LIST. ALSO LET THEM KNOW WHAT HAPPENED WHEN YOU WERE TRYING TO LOOK UP INFO. GOOD LUCK,TAKE CARE.

Question : Has anyone here been to an Eating Disorder treatment center?
I have my first appointment at the a hospital next week and am scared sh*tless. I dealt with bulimia (bingeing/purging) for one year and now go back and forth between exercise bulimia and binge eating. Because I am no longer getting rid of the food I have gained about 20 lbs and I’m scared of facing this head on, dealing with my emotions, all the questions they are sure to ask me, and finding a way out of this. I know this is the right thing for me to do and I’m going to go no matter what but I was hoping someone else had been through this or gotten help from at ED treatment center. I really want to get better, just nervous about what they might ask me.

i do because i dont eat anything, im never hungry.

i know your scared but try to be calm because they care about you and try to answer honestly. theyll ask you like how you feel and what you think before, during, and after you do it; when did you have these feelings and when did you start; etc.
