Non-Invasive Optical Blood Glucose Monitoring System

blood sugar monitor

A non-invasive blood glucose monitor that measures the refraction of laser light through the clear fluid in the front part of the eye to determine glucose levels. This is a concept sketch for the diabetesMine design competition. The concept of measuring blood glucose through the aqueous humor has been researched and tested, but to the best of my knowledge, nobody has proposed a testing device that uses the concept. My design proposes a sonar/infrared “depth gauge” but in all likelihood, this will be unnecessary as the angle of refraction will probably not differ with the angle or amount of fluid that the laser passes through.

Question : Does anyone know about the prescription drug Janumet?
My dr. prescribed it for my diabetes. I asked for something to help me loose weight. He said this would make the weight fall off. Does it work for weight, or just my diabetes? He doesn’t seem to want to prescribe a weight loss pill due to all of the side effects.

Although I am not the expert, your doctor should have prescribed Byetta to help with weight loss. Janumet has no positive effects on weight. Metformin might help a little with the weight, but the Janu component will not. However, the reason your doctor prescribed this medication is because metformin may no longer be working for you because diabetes is a progressive disease.

No, that is how you have to check it—it’s a blood sugar test, so you have to test the blood. Of course you can use it without a doctor. Millions of people have diabetes and check their blood sugar several times a day.

It is worth the cost for several reasons: the more people buy these machines, the more money goes into research to make them better, and of course, you get additional information (especially at night when you can be awakened by an alarm) to help control your diabetes. And as we all know, with T1 controll is the name of the game.

They are expensive (if you have a Paradigm pump the starter kit is $ 900) and insurance won’t cover them or the sensors so it will be totally out of pocket. You will also still need to do finger sticks even though you have the CM. The FDA approved them provisionally~meaning they still aren’t totally reliable. They have to be calabrated a lot too.

Bottom line~ if we could afford one, my son would have one. Good luck and good health.

Question : Why do Fat People ride the electric scooters in grocery stores?
Aren’t those scooters suppose to be just for handicapped people? Can’t the employee’s at Wal-Mart just ask people to get off the scooters if they are just fat and not handicapped? Or is that being discriminating? Is being fat a handicap?

Compare defibrillators – Medtronic vs St Jude?

1

Question : Compare defibrillators – Medtronic vs St Jude?
The cardiologist wants to replace the Medtronic 3-wire defibrillator with a St Jude model.

What are the trade-offs? Is St. Jude verifiably better?

Obviously, I REJECT the notion that the only source of information is one doctor. That defeats the entire purpose of asking questions on this forum.

Budget is not a problem (for us): Covered by insurance. It might be a consideration for the insurance company or the doctor or hospital.

I assumed there were several models.

The current model is MEDTRONIC Model # 7303.

Which St. Jude models are similar and what parameters influence the choice?

There are different models for each company. Only your doctor can decide depending your disease process and budget.

Would an alcoholic be a good Alcohol taste tester?

3

Question : Would an alcoholic be a good Alcohol taste tester?
Then WHY would you elect an OIL barron and a business man who makes his fortune with contracts made with the military in charge of the country????

Isn’t it in their best interest to wage war with oil countries????
alcohol tester

Answer by Meathook
Actually being an alcoholic and the ability to taste test are two different things. It probably wouldn’t be the best idea for a calling but if they have the specialized taste buds to do the job well…

Why exactly would it be in their best interest to wage war with oil bearing countries, and if it is wouldn’t they have invaded somewhere with easier to get oil and less of a military/political problem than Iraq? Even Iraq invaded kuwait for oil. We could take Kuwait in an afternoon. If Bush was smart enough to plan 9/11 I’m sure he could have planted evidence of Al Queada(sp?) in Kuwait
