If I’m already diabetic, would I have to take the 1 hour glucose test?
Question : If I’m already diabetic, would I have to take the 1 hour glucose test?
I am not on meds but I diet and exercise to keep my diabetes under control. I’d really hate to put all that sugar in my system if I don’t have to. Couldn’t they do a fasting test instead?

Gosh I hope you don’t have to take it…..it SUCKS!!!
Do you regularly monitor your own blood sugar? Or do you have regular visits with the endocrinologist who helps you mange your diabetes? If the answer to one or both of these questions is, “yes”, then it’s unlikely you’ll need to do the 1 hour glucola–it’s done to diagnose diabetes or gestational diabetes and we already know you have it. That particular test is done @ around 28 weeks gestation, so you’ll have an opportunity to run the question past your ob-gyn @ your next ob visit. It’s great that you’ve been able to keep things well managed with diet and exercise! Hope all goes well.
