In the fateful days leading up to the Allied bombings of Dresden, Anna (Felicitas Woll), a hospital nurse discovers Robert Newman (John Light), an injured British pilot hiding in the cellar. First thinking that he is a German deserter, Anna helps the wounded man recover. But when she comes to realize his true identity, she cannot bring herself to turn him in. Sara. It just seems unlikely. Think of it. When the bombs were dropping on Dresden, he would have only been interested in his mates that were dropping the bombs – that they got safely back home. His total hatred of the Germans, which all bomber crews had, would have meant that he would have tried to kill as many as he could on the ground. He would have been happy at another successful mission by “our boys”. That is the truth. A bomber pilot said “we murdered them that night – it was great!”.

Sara. I guess that people are still individuals. I am sure that the men in bomber command would disgusted at his attitude – it is treason to act in the way he did, if as you say the film was true. The people of Dresden were at least spared the English invading the city. The city was liberated by the Red Army, who treated the people of Dresden well.

• To keep athe debate balanced, the Dresden bombers took off froma a UK, still being attacked by V2 rockets made in Mittelbau Dora camp where 20,000 people died. 9,000 died from exhaustion and collapse, 350 were hanged. The others were shot or died from disease or starvation. Drseden was left defenceless by the Wehrmacht who removed its AA guns for his own dedence against Russians seeking revenge for what had been done to them by Einsatzgruppen.

Can’t people understand that all German people were not nazi. Most of them were just fighting for their life, as averyone in the WW2.
Come on grow up! It’s because of people like you that there is still hatred everywhere nowadays.
I don’t wanna hurt anyone by saying this, I just want people to realize that in WW2 everybody was fighting people they were asked to fight ! (I’m not refering to creepy nazi, but to the other part of the popultion)
