Each one uses the sedative he prefers. You would have to ask the specific dentist which one he prefers to use.
They use some of the same things that anesthesiologists use, however, we have higher standards for monitoring and paying attention to our patients. Fortunately, it’s pretty hard to kill young, healthy people, so most patients do well.
There are a lot of different drugs used for sedation, but most probably use midazolam and fentanyl, and maybe propofol.
