psoriasis?

Question : psoriasis?
i am 13 years old and when i was six i got strep throat which lead to psoriasis…then summer of 2006 i got strep again and got psoriasis again…but now i had a sinus infection like a month and a half ago and was taking ammoxicillin for it and it went away soon after…now a month and a half later i’m breaking out in what appears to be psoriasis, but on my neck &scalp only. any tips? and if it is psoriasis, how can i prevent it from spreading any further? i’m halfway through the school year and i dont want to get it any worse.

Are you sure it is psoriasis? Psoriasis is a genetic thing and I have not heard of antibiotics making it flare, tho I have not heard that they don’t either.

It sounds more like eczema which is pretty much either an allergic reaction or extremely dry skin.
There are links below to both conditions, but if it is related to a medication, it is most likely atopic (allergic) eczema. The good news in that case is that there are plenty of topical creams to treat it and it can be avoided in the future by letting your Doc know what you have taken that has caused it.
I usually end up with Betamethazone cream for mine and I find it works on SOOOO many other skin irritations that it is like a miracle for me. There is also some new stuff the doc gave me called Liquix (I think I remember that right) which is dispensed like a hair mousse and removes the itching in 24 hours

Sounds like your having a reaction to a medication since you were sick and taking Amox which is a type of penicillen. Psoriasis does not go away that easy, it can only be controlled.

I have psoriasis on my scalp and on my neck behind my ears. I was told to use dandruff shampoo, it works really well, my dermatologist said to get three or four different types(Neutregena T-Gel, Head and Shoulders, and Selsum blue are all good.) and switch between them each time you wash your hair. make sure you leave it on your scalp for at least five min. before rinsing. i swear this helps, i would just use a really good conditioner to keep your hair from drying out

awww I feel so bad for you.
I had the same thing….
I went and GOT EVERYTHING under the sun!
What FINALLY worked for me is MG217, believe it or not i heard on RADIO!!!! and well i seemed to have tried everything ,Including the going and spending a lot of money at the Dermo(skin doctor) . ahhhh and the head ,now they have a special shampoo Neutrogena. Make sure you get the Conditioner!!! also as it dried my hair badly and couldn’t even get a comb through it! BUT it helped me! I had it so bad in my head that they wouldn’t even give me a perm!…but haven’t had it in my head for YEARS!
And at the age of 13 I’m sure it UPSETS you! this is NOT a good age to have too deal with psoriasis!!!!!!!
If you do get and find the MG217..it’s a little expensive BUT PLEASE! make sure you use it EVERYDAY! I put on before when i go too bed! It’s NOT going too go away completely and you will have Flair ups! I still get the flair up..but using the MG217 makes the world of difference!
BUT I SWEAR BY THIS STUFF!!!!!!

i went to the doctor & got this medicine called olux foam which clears up outbreaks really fast (not permanently, though), but what dermatologists won’t tell you is that most skin disorders are actually a symptom of an imbalance of intestinal bacteria (more bad than good). get that activa yogurt or probiotic supplements & try taking it for about a week & it should improve. seriously. but, yeah, psoriasis is very unpredictable. it comes and goes. if you get it once, there is always a chance it will come back.

well stress is a big player in the problem. so try not to stress.
you could get some special heat tan lamps.
your doctor most likely has given you some awful tar like stuff to bath in .
did you know that in the middle east there is a place where you can go and sit in a pool of water and the little special fish come and nibble off the dead skin right down until it bleeds just a tiny bit . the fish then leaves some enzyme on the area that prevents it from coming back . this has gone on since the time of Jesus. you might want to look it up on the net its really something.

If it is warm enough out where you live, the sun helps to clear up psoriasis. I get it on my scalp too. It is no fun but with the warmer weather now I am hoping to use the sun to clear up mine. No hat for me when it is above 30 degrees now.
