what happens if a diabetic doesn’t stick to their diet and drinks alcohol?

Question : what happens if a diabetic doesn’t stick to their diet and drinks alcohol?
I am not a diabetic however my blood sugars were high a few years ago and I was prescribed Metformin but I havent been taking it I simply just refuse to take it and that’s it could that mean I have diabetes already? what happens if a diabetic is unable to give themselves shots or misses a day of insulin?

I hate to break it to you, but, if you’ve been prescribed metformin for high blood sugar, then you do have diabetes. (Or “pre-diabetes”, but I consider that to just be a watered-down term for a mild case of type 2 diabetes.)

The good news is that, if you do indeed have type 2, then you’re probably not going to need to start taking insulin injections for a long time, if ever. Type 2 is generally managed with a combination of diet, exercise, and oral medications. The less carbs you eat and the more you exercise, the more likely you will be to be able to manage type 2 diabetes without requiring metformin or other medications.

For those of us with type 1 diabetes, on the other hand, insulin is life, plain and simple. If I were to lose access to my insulin, my muscles would turn to fat and protein as their primary energy sources within a day, maybe two days, depending on how long it takes for the last of the long-acting insulin in my blood to become inactive. Once that happened, high levels of ketones would start to turn my blood acidic. Within a week or so, this build-up of acid (known clinically as “ketoacidosis”) would become sufficient to kill me. It’s not a fun process.

If your blood sugars were high, then you ARE a diabetic. Currently, there is no cure for diabetes. A patient can control his or her blood sugar, but if s/he eats the wrong stuff, or doesn’t take the medicine, or doesn’t exercise properly, then that patient will experience high blood sugar again.

You have already damaged some of your organs, probably your heart, your eyes, your kidneys, and your blood vessels. Possibly other organs as well. Go see a doctor, and if you can’t tolerate metformin (I can’t take it because it gives me horrible diarrhea), then there are other medicines that can be prescribed. Metformin is usually the first medicine prescribed because it’s very effective and it’s relatively cheap, however, some people can’t tolerate it.

If an insulin dependent diabetic doesn’t give him/herself insulin, or enough insulin, s/he can go into a diabetic coma and suffer severe organ damage. If s/he doesn’t receive medical treatment in time, death can result.

Diabetes is not caused by low blood sugar, but low blood sugar is a result. Controlling the blood sugar is a temporary fix at best and if you are taking drugs, like metaformin, you are only controlling the blood sugar and will continue having diabetes until you solve the root cause.

Taking insulin for diabetes type 2 that is an “insulin resistant” disease just exacerbates the problem and makes your insulin receptor sites on your cells even more resistance. It also just shows how little doctors know about diabetes. In fact, doctors, drug companies, pharmacies, all tell you diabetes is NOT curable. Nothing is further from the truth and just further shows their ignorance.

If you drink alcohol, you are creating more hardened bile in your liver and creating more fatty liver condition. This impairs the ability of the liver to do it’s job and reduces it’s ability to cleanse the blood. Having diabetes is proof the person is sick and all the side effects that happen as a result of the diabetes is further destruction of the body.

It is now possible to be off all medications, including insulin, and have a stable blood sugar in a normal range within 4 weeks. It requires changing what you eat and then going on a long term stable diet to prevent the diabetes from returning.

i’ve been diabetic for ten years. you will first have to go through dialysis three times a week for four hour periods where they cycle your blood through your veins. if you still dont take it, you will begin to lose feeling in your digits and limbs and they will be amputated. blindness will soon occur. you will also loose your teeth and bone density. after that, you will lose control of your bowels and slowly slip into a coma and die. diabetes is a fatal disease, just a slow, sneaky, painful one.
