Question : Should I go back into treatment for my eating disorder?
I have been in and out of treatment for a few years now. In May I went to an in patient program out of town and it was supposed to be a 2 month program. I promised my parents and sister that I would stick it out and that I was committed to getting better. After 2 weeks of the program I quit and came home. It’s been about 4 months since then and I have been home with no treatment. I have put on a front and have made it seem like I’m doing better but I’m really not. When I left the out of town program my parents were not impressed and my sister (whos opinion matters to me more than anything) told me that that i couldnt keep going in and out of treatment and quiting cuz it was to hard on everyone. Lately it’s been getting pretty bad and I have contacted a few treatment centres. There is a place just across the border in the states that looks great but I dont know if I should go. I want to get better but I dont want my family to get frustrated at my constant in and out of facilities.

eating disorders are difficult for everyone involved. Depending on your particular eating disorder, you may or may not find the help you need.

The best thing to do is find what you already know is right. If you have to question whether or not you still have control, I think it is time to seek help.

Finding a program that works for you, and can help you is really important. However, no body can replace the help that you get from your family. It sounds like you have a great relationship with your sister, get her involved.

If you can’t do it for yourself, do it for her. Hang in there, and good luck! (Just a side note, if your anorexic, 100% of anorexics die from anorexia without treatment, hope that motivates you!)
