Are people in motorized wheelchairs pedestrians?
Question : Are people in motorized wheelchairs pedestrians?
Or must they follow the “rules of the road” like a car or someone on a bicycle? I’ve been surprised by several people in their motorized wheelchairs/carts when they enter a roadway or intersection. Can’t decide if they are very brave or unaware of the danger when they are out in traffic.

I do not have an answer, but I gave you a star for asking an excellent question. I have a cousin who uses a motorized wheelchair and I would hope that she takes every safety precaution and that drivers are looking out for her and others who may be unexpected in traffic.
Wheelchairs are sail in the “steam gives way to sail” rule. Far as I’m concerned they can go wherever they like and it’s up to the rest of us to look out for them.
