Hi,
First thing is to NOT listen to most of what is on the web (and some posted here). MM has had a couple fo GREAT breakthrough treatments in the last year (Velcade and Revelamid) that have really helped. Plus better use of Thal/Dex, SCT and biophspahtes.
I know patients that are in year 10 and even 15 after diag. Keep a postitive attitude, it is a tough diagnosis but you can LIVE ! with MM
As far as individual survival; that is a very complicated question: depndes on age, progression at diagnosis, and some genetic factors (like cromozone 13) and which “type” of Myeloma you have.
Biggest thing I can think of to help with the survival is to make sure your are seeing someone that specialises in MM – not just cancer. The information is changing almost every day; so you need a doc in thyour courner that has thealstest information.
Also, KNOW your cancer – learn everything you can, so you can make the best decisions you can. Make sure you have a doc that you can communicate with and understands you needs and issues.
Good luck
