Green Laser Light treatment of BPH (enlarged prostate) and sexual dysfunction
Erectile dysfunction is a well known complication of the standard treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) or enlargement of the prostate. About 10 percent of patients who have a TURP erectile dysfunction as a result of the procedure on the left.
This is a serious risk to the patient. Though the majority of patients with BPH, I see that 65 years and over, I see a number of patients in the fifties. These patients often decide cons surgery – even if it means they have to live with the symptoms of BPH – because they do not want complications, risk a major impact on their lives.
Also for some patients in the age group, erectile dysfunction is very important.
At the Center of the prostate laser, we discuss the risks and complications very well with patients before surgery. In some cases, patients on the treatment of symptoms and complications to be less concerned with pre-aligned by surgery. But after surgery when the patient begins to recover, complications may become a major source of concern.
This is one reason why Green Light Laser treatment of such important developments. The green laser light provides a high power, reliable and accurate means of destruction of excess tissue regions selected by evaporation. In contrast, during TURP, prostate tissue excess is burned by electric currents.
The nerves that control erections are only the side of the prostate is located. During TURP, assembly problem can occur because of this nerve by the heat of electric current can be damaged. The current can be very poorly differentiated from the fields of IT objectives.
The green laser is much narrower. Even if it was so powerful that the excess tissue is vaporized immediately, it has not penetrated deeply into the tissues. Therefore, it is presumed that this reduces the risk of erectile dysfunction. In my own experience I have yet to develop erectile dysfunction, given the green light laser therapy.
Although Green Light Laser treatment is a relatively new phenomenon in the United Kingdom, it is well established in America and parts of Europe. 200,000 procedures were performed worldwide. * A large study has shown, there is a 1 per cent of erectile dysfunction after laser treatment Greenlight, compared to 10 percent for TURP.
A very common side effect after TURP is known as retrograde ejaculation. This means that during orgasm the semen enters the bladder rather than through the penis. The seed is then the next time the urine is emptied past. Retrograde ejaculation is not harmful, and for many men, it is not problematic, even if it resulted from sexual satisfaction and less infertility. The risk of retrograde ejaculation after TURP is high, up 90 percent. The numbers of retrograde ejaculation after green light laser is much lower at 29-41 percent.
In summary, Green Light Laser patients with the same results as TURP – a rapid relief of symptoms of BPH. But with Green Light Laser, this is achieved with reduced side effects and complications. These benefits to the patient must be recognized.
