Fatigue in multiple sclerosis and hypothyroidism
Fatigue can happen in Multiple Sclerosis, and those who deal with hypothyroidism. TSH levels, which can go over 5.3 hypothyroidism. After a total thyroidectomy in January 2008, my TSH went up to 42 – I was pretty wiped out. I’m back to work down toward a normal TSH and dealing with all the pollution along the path. Hypothyroidism and MS seem a lot alike in some way. Many “UMMS” and some “yawn” – excuse me, around you to yawn, even the word is contagious:)

I myself had a thyroidectomy done almost 5 years ago after being diagnosed with thyroid cancer. My Doc had me under active for the whole 5 years and needless to say, i’ve been better. Hypothyroidism is nothing to play around with and i hope you have a good Doc. God Bless You and you have my best wishes.

Great attitude! Can you tell me, did you have numbness and tingling in your extremities? I was recently diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease. TSH of 19. However, docs are conflicting and I’m worried about having MS because of facial twitching and tingling, numbness and arthritic conditions in main joints. Any help or insight appreciated.

I had a goiter awhile back during the summer. My TSH was normal though “2.54″, not everyone tests high, so the doc wouldn’t treat me. However, I started eating iodized salt and it cured my goiter and hypothyroidism w/o meds luckily. Hypo sucks, I never wanna go through that again my body temp dropped to like 93 degrees and I felt like a 90 year old man.

Im dealing with weight gain along with others only in the gut area like im pregnant. Im going to get labs to start meds again for hypo. Do you ever think sometimes if were not MS and its Hypo? for some that is? -

Hi Cindy,
It took me a little over a year to have my TSH level out. I understand that fatigue. I take Synthroid at .175 and it took awhile to get to that level … but I am feeling good. I think you may need to talk to your doctor about a higher dose of medication. No matter what your TSH level might say (even if it is under 5) your doctor needs to help you treat symptoms. Talk to them, they are there to help. Get better, sounds like your TSH level is too high and not enough replacement. -

Hi Cindy,
I think the doctor was right in moving you down, especially if you are having side effects. When the doc moved me to .175, my TSH was only at 5-ish but my symptoms were many. This extra dose has helped me (up from 150). Everyone is different and you need to pay attention to symptoms as much as the numbers.
Best wishes,
Diana
