Is a waterbed dangerous in an electrical storm?
I’ve always wondered if my waterbed is not such a good place to be in a thunder/lightning storm. Think about it, I’m laying on water which is on top of electric heater plugged into the wall.

Any electrical conductor inside your home that connects to a circuit going outside can potentially carry lightning currents in to anything connected to it. This includes power, telephone, satellite receiver, and TV antenna wiring among others. Once it is in your home it is really just a matter of chance as to what damage it does, if any.
Check out the post below from Australia for a report of lightning striking a water bed. This guy faired okay.
However, “dangerous” is a matter of degree. Having never heard of anyone being killed inside their home by any lightning surge, except for those few unfortunate souls who were using landline phones or whose home burned down, I would have to say that yes it is possible but the chances of being hurt by this type of accident are very remote.
So get some sleep!
