How long does it take the average Neti Pot user to flush out their sinuses?
I used the Neti Pot for the first time and found it interesting that it took so long–about 10 to 15 seconds for the liquid to begin to flush out the other nostril. And then it only drips slowly. Is that typical? It also seems to take longer going one direction that the other which seems weird to me. If the sinus is open to allow drainage to happen in one direction, why wouldn’t it be open the other direction as it takes the same path only in reverse, right?
Just an added thought to other good ones here.
Make sure your head is tilted correctly.
A slight adjustment to that can help facilitate the flow through your nostrils.
For example. Tilt your head forward and drop the top of your head slightly.
Then turn your head to the right or left for each pour respectively.
When I first started using a Neti Pot it took me a few tries to know exactly which position worked best for me.
The “speed” of the pour can vary depending on your own physiology and if you are congested.
When I think I might be getting a cold or if my allergies start up I simply use something called Neti Wash which contains some herbal elixir combo that includes Golden Seal.
I mix a few drops in the saline water.
I almost never get a cold or get sick anymore.
