Does hyperventilation just prior to breath tester use reduce the alcohol reading?
0Question : Does hyperventilation just prior to breath tester use reduce the alcohol reading?
I had a lecturer that once said alcohol takes 15 minutes to diffuse to maximal levels in the lungs after hyperventilation. I was wondering if there are any sources where this has been proven. Ive heard Myth Buster may have tested some ideas but couldn’t find any to work. I have some anecdotal evidence from friends who have been clearly over 0.05 but have blown under this limit from prior hyperventilating but this doesn’t convince me.
This is not a question about ethics, its of biological and social interest.

the problem with anecdotal evidence is that there is no control, there is no limits on what other things could be effecting the test results. lets say in a panic your friend starts doing every folk tail he can remember when it comes to beating the test, how are we to know which one of those things did the trick? worse yet how do we know that the result isn’t based on some form of equipment error?

and frankly these laws about drunk driving exist for a reason. how many people go through life thinking they will get cancer? how many people will decide to drive while drunk thinking that they will get into an accident? arrogance is not a variable in physics or chemistry

Joules are measurements of work, volts are measurements of electrical potential. Asking how many volts an AED uses is about like asking how many quarts your TV is.
The battery pack in a modern AED is generally a 9vdc pack, but by the time it is ready to go through the pads, it has been ramped up to closer to 1,000 volts… but the voltage is not doing the work- that is not the useful number to pay attention to.
Male Eating Disorders
25group therapy for eating disorders
It is estimated that 8 million people in the United States are suffering from an Eating Disorder, and of that number 10% are men. Personally, I am guessing that the percentage suffering that are men is far higher, but because of the old fashioned idea that this illness strikes only women, few men come forward to find the help they deserve. Right from its inception, this whole site has always been aimed at addressing Eating Disorders in everyone, but there are some issues that are specific to the male eating disorder community. As with all sufferers there has always been, and still is, an element of shame in being someone with an Eating Disorder (“I’m disgusting”, “look at what I do to myself”, “people will think I’m crazy”, etc.), but for men and the old misconception that they cannot suffer from an Eating Disorder, the shame they face is often worse. According to Arnold Andersen and the research he did for his book Males with Eating Disorders, while women who develop Eating Disorders feel fat before the onset of their disordered eating behaviors, typically they are near average weight. Men are more typically overweight medically before the development of the disorder. In addition, men who are binge eaters or compulsive overeaters may go undiagnosed more than women because of society’s willingness to accept an overeating and/or overweight man more-so than an overeating or overweight woman. Though it is more common for homosexual men to suffer from Eating Disorders such as …

0Question : Is it a good idea to take a medical assistant program during winter break while I am in a 4 year college?
I am pursuing a bs in math and might switch. I currently work at a fast food restaurant and I’m not making enough money. I am thinking about following a 4-6 week program for medical/dental assisting while I’m on winter break. Is that a good idea?

Most MA programs take 2 years….if you are talking about a nurses aid program that takes about 6 weeks I would say go for it if you can get into a hospital. But I would also look into various jobs in the hospitals….you could try patient registration in the ER which usually offers great flexibility (seeing as how its 24 hours), unit secretary, patient transport and thisng like they. they require minimal training and its usually on the job and hospitals are 24 hours which makes for flexible work schedules (8, 10, or 12 hr shifts)

NEW YORK – Demi Lovato, one of Disney’s biggest names, checked herself into a treatment center to deal with “emotional and physical issues,” her representatives said in a statement Monday night.
The statement did not specify the 18-year-old’s problems, but said Lovato checked herself into a facility to address the concerns.
A person familiar with the situation previously told The Associated Press that Lovato entered treatment for problems including an eating disorder and cutting herself. The person, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly due to the sensitivity of the matter, later clarified the statement, saying Lovato had dealt with those issues in the past.
Lovato, who is star of Disney’s “Camp Rock” movies and the sitcom “Sonny With a Chance,” was on an international tour as a special guest of the Jonas Brothers, but left the tour over the weekend to enter an undisclosed facility, according to the statement.
“Demi has decided to take personal responsibility for her actions and seek help,” the statement said. “She is doing just that. Demi and her family ask that the media respect her privacy during this difficult time.”
In a 2009 interview with The Associated Press, Lovato, who has also released several records, said she had to leave middle school at one point because she was bullied so badly.
“It was more verbal harassment than physical abuse, but that’s actually more scarring than anything,” she said. “And I had to leave because I just couldn’t deal with it. And I’ve home-schooled ever since.”
Lovato was linked earlier this year to Joe Jonas, her “Camp Rock” co-star, but the two later broke up and said they remained friends.
Her rep said Lovato regretted not finishing the tour but “is looking forward to getting back to work in the near future.”

Im guessing around 500 dollars, if they are around 1,000 here. I just know it is cheaper there. But if you go to the Phillipines to just get braces, then come back to america…it will be hard to get them tightened (expensiver) because your braces will be from a different country. Also, try googling it. Good luck.

Dieticians – Internists – Is kwashiorkor a possible symptom of our poor diet – too much white flour / corn syr?
0Question : Dieticians – Internists – Is kwashiorkor a possible symptom of our poor diet – too much white flour / corn syr?
I think many Americans are starving themselves because of their daily reliance on white flour for sustenance, whether rich or poor. Does white flour inhibit good digestion of other more protein rich foods? (Look at all the protruding bellies.) I’m looking at something that indicated that in a report as follows:
“Conditions listing Kwashiorkor as a symptom may also be potential underlying causes of Kwashiorkor. Our database lists the following as having Kwashiorkor as a symptom of that condition:

Protein-calorie malnutrition: Causes and incidence
(Professional Guide to Diseases (Eighth Edition))
Both kwashiorkor (edematous PCM) and marasmus (nonedematous PCM) are common in underdeveloped countries and in areas in which dietary amino acid
content is insufficient to satisfy growth requirements. Kwashiorkor typically occurs at about age 1, after infants are weaned from breast milk to a protein-deficient diet of starchy gruels or sugar water, but it can develop at any time during the formative years. Marasmus affects infants ages 6 to 18 months as a result of breast-feeding failure, or a debilitating condition such as chronic diarrhea.
In industrialized countries, PCM may occur secondary to chronic metabolic disease that decreases protein and calorie intake or absorption, or trauma that increases protein and calorie requirements. In the United States, PCM is estimated to occur to some extent in 50% of elderly people in nursing homes. Those who aren’t allowed anything by mouth for an extended period are at high risk of developing PCM. Conditions that increase protein-calorie requirements include severe burns and injuries, systemic infections, and cancer (accounts for the largest group of hospitalized patients with PCM). Conditions that cause defective utilization of nutrients include malabsorption syndrome, short-bowel syndrome, and Crohn’s disease.

Interesting read and yes, you have a valid point there.
I believe when manufactures add or take products out to produce a longer shelf life, we become unwittingly victims.
I also will state that man’s desire to consume these products in large quantities also makes a statement to how well they care about their own bodies and therefore allowing them to become the blimps, encourage laziness and less outgoing as a person.
I find these chemicals are foreign to the human body and instead of helping ones digestion, actually does the opposite. It promotes build up and therefore a blockage to the body operating normally.
There is where the many problems of the body lies in wait for us. Some times quicker then we ever could realize.
It is sad that many of these traits are passed on during breast feeding and actual Development inside a mother’s womb. However i wonder if this wasn’t all a design by human engineering to cause a decrease in the human population or is it just a consequence of a “on Demand” society.
I learned a lot about nutritional values when i searched out about diets for myself. There are some products now that i will never eat again
Great question and deserving my further attention as well as others.
