Did anyone have in their birth plan that they did not want an electronic fetal monitor?
Question : Did anyone have in their birth plan that they did not want an electronic fetal monitor?
Did the doctor honor your request?
I had four births without an electronic monitor, but it was difficult to find a place that would allow it.
Statistics show that the electronic monitor does not lower the infant mortality rate, but it triples the c-sec rate. That was why I did not want one.

Nope, i live in Miami and i researched 3 hospitals in the area and they all make you wear a fetal monitor, it sucks but it’s required down here.
I agree with your additional details – and people need to stop acting like pregnancy and childbirth are illnesses. If you don’t want one, that’s your right. And you’re right – they do nothing but put fear into you for no reason and make your doctor jump to conclusions that might be completely unfounded.
Like we need anything MORE in this damned country to increase the c-section rate …. it’s already high enough as it is. I hope that Rad Tech can understand that, even as “common and everyday” as birth is, millions of women are getting choices taken away from them with every birth as a result of crazy monitoring and interventions. Because of that, I, and lots of women like me, have to fight for our right just to give birth vaginally AT ALL, which sucks. The human body can do amazing things if doctors would only let it!
Ok, stepping off my soapbox now. *sigh*
