Question : sedation for dentist work in a 22 month old child?
my child has to get his 2 front teeth pulled. he is 22 months old. they told me they will use sedation to that will make him loopy. does anyone have any experience or had this done to their small child before. i am terrified, i cant go into the room with him either. he is not allowed to eat or drink, the appointment is at 1pm. it just sounds like a huge torture.

Call your pediatrician to see if sedation is okay. Does he really need to get his teeth pulled at 2? I’m sorry you are going though this. I know how scary it is especially when you see your child in any kind of pain. Good luck and I hope he gets through it with no problems.

Personally, i would want to see another dentist.
Sedation is one thing, but to have a child go this long without even a drink sounds a bit dodgy.
However, you don’t say whether you have been advised if your child can have breakfast, or fluids until a certain time.
For an adult having a general anaesthetic, you can have clear fluids up to 2hours prior to surgery, and food six hours prior to surgery. Don’t know what the criteria is for children.
The sedation could go either way for your child, and would more likely affect said child as medication is wearing off, i.e grouchy or happy.
You are, as a parent, well within your rights to insist on going in with him. If this is to take place in a hospital, you will get full details about nil by mouth etc, but you can go as far as the anaesthetic room until child asleep, and then be there in recovery for when he is awake and stable. If at a dental surgery, put your foot down and find out why you can’t be with child for treatment.

there is no reason to pull 2 teeth for a 22 months old!!!!
even if they were supplementary we usually wait until the other teeth erupt and the child get older
So i wouldn’t recommend pulling the teeth at all
please make sure from other dentists that this decision is right and try to ask them about why don’t you wait until he is older and why at the first place this dentist decided to pull the teeth!!!
