Question : what should I expect going in for inpatient treatment on Monday for an eating disorder?
I had my phone assessment already and was recommended for inpatient. I’m supposed to check in Monday morning for 4-8 weeks. I have no idea what to expect? What do they do if you won’t eat 3 meals every day?

I was an inpatient at a hospital for an eating disorder a few years ago. When you first get there you’ll be checked in, weighed, blood tests, they will check your things, normal for anyone in the hospital. If the place you are going is anything like where I was you will be eating three meals a day plus snacks if you don’t finish everything you’ll be giving a drink supplement like Boost Plus to make up the calories. If you refuse food and the supplement you will be tubed and fed through your nose until you decide to eat or drink. I remember that my water intake was closely monitored, you have to drink a certain amount but not too much. Your bathroom will probably be locked and you’ll have to have a nurse in the room when you go to the toilet or take a shower. During the day you’ll probably be confined to bed and they will check your orthostatics three times a day. What they are looking for is if when you stand up from lying down if your heart rate goes up and your blood pressure drops: if this happens you’ll be taken in a wheelchair to and from the bathroom and to meals if they are in a different room.
