CNA’s need to be paid a lot more than 10 dollars an hour for everything they do and have to put up with. If the facility they are working in isn’t offering overtime then its really not truly worth it. If you absolutely need a job to put food on the table then do it but if you can avoid it, I would suggest becoming a secretary or try to get a job in medical records. Or just stay in school and become an RN. After a while at 10 bucks an hour the only ass you will want to be wiping is your own.

I am a certified nurse in Alberta Canada and I went to school full time for 24 weeks full time. In Alberta starting in January 2011 you have to be certified or you can challenge the program to show you are knowledgeable to be a new hire by government standards.
I just graduated in February of 2010 and I got a job before I was even finished school. I make $19 an hour and then another $5 an hour for night premium which gives me a wage of $24. Being a male I had a ton of job offers. -

Can you provide a link to that legislation? I have looked everywhere on the Alberta government website for a “Certified Nurse Assistant” under the health professional act and cannot find one.
Congratulations on your job! I think that you will be making more than what the equivalent job would be here in BC. Thankfully it is much more than the $10.00 per hour quoted in the video! -

Bevomalley I sent you the link for my union contract since I could not put it here because they say it’s spam. Since I was a male and wanted to do nursing the Government of Alberta paid it for me. I dedicated my life to school finishing with a 4.0. The grade I passed with was 95%. Some of the certificates I got was First Aid, CPR, AED (automated external defibrillator), WHMIS, fire suppression, medication distribution and blood glucose monitoring to name a few. -

I have been a CNA for a little over two years now and I only get paid $10.15 hr…our facility came up with excuses on why not to give us raises (such as not putting linens in bags, forgetting to turn an alarm on) and there is so much drama that goes on between the aides and so many of them are lazy and neglect the residents it is a sad sight to see residents soaked with urine and yelled at and you can’t do much about it cuz u got ur own stuff to do on another hall

I find it interesting that you chose a doctor to talk about a nursing assistant. I am not sure why a doctor would be an expert on a nursing service?
Also please specify that the information is US based.
There is no certification for nurses aides in Canada and they make significantly more than what is specified here.
