Can A Teacher Do This?
Question : Can A Teacher Do This?
My daughter is entering a treatment facility for anorexia this week, and she just told me that about three weeks ago, while she was still in school, her biology teacher called her name, and in front of the whole entire class said “Kelsey, are you eating? You look disgusting. You are too thin.” She didn’t pull her aside or anything like that to ask if she was eating, she did it in front of thirty other kids, and of course they’re going to tell other kids what happened.
Of course, my daughter wasn’t eating, and she was so embarrassed, and I don’t appreciate my child being told she looks disgusting by a teacher! Can the teacher just get away with this?

nope. You can totally tell the school about that. The teacher can’t go telling your daughter’s business to everyone.
I would telephone the school’s principal immediately for an appointment to meet in his or her office to discuss this situation. This is not something that can be dealt with in a phone call. I’d tell the principal that I would expect and explanation of this behavior and an apology from this teacher to my daughter or I will take this up with my attorney and at the next school board meeting. And I would tell the principal about my daughter’s subsequent hospitalization because the school is going to know about it anyway when they coordinate her school work with the hospital.
But first, I would need to talk with another student in my daughter’s class who heard and saw this confrontation so that I had corroboration of the facts.
