I think the drug you are referring to is Micardis (It is a angiotensive receptor blocker used for hypertension).
It is reported that the drug could cause erectile dysfunctions but no evidence to say that it interferes with reproductive system.
Any writing critique?
0Question : Any writing critique?
So, I’m working on a short story. The formatting is a little strange on yahoo answers. I’m just getting started, but I would appreciate any and all critique on what I have so far:
The ground itself appeared to be bleeding. Crimson leaves cascaded across the landscape, fluttering atop the overgrown property. An intangible sense of loss filled the air, seeping up the narrow drive towards the faded white house – a house that was once a home. The walls were badly chipped; paint flecks curled away from the wood. The front door seemed to hang on its hinges, knocking gently in the wind.
A mechanical whirr intruded upon the mourning of the land. A bulldozer, painted in shades of garish orange, was crawling towards the small house. Every flower, every tree, every bush and vine, seemed to whisper with indignation. After years of neglect, it was the greenery that had taken possession of the estate, playing gatekeeper to the memories built there over the years. Helpless now, the rhododendrons shed their dewdrop tears freely. And those crimson leaves, the blood of a fatal wound, continued to flow.
This scene, tragic in its desolation, would not have been found so many years ago. The walls of the small house, now dilapidated, once stood glossy and new. Within their confines, a family lived.
“Mangiare,” Paula Julia Rossi Porter declared, lifting her glass into the air. Laughter echoed across the room, melding with the delicate clinking of silverware. Upon her word, every guest had begun to eat. The spread of food, smelling strongly of both garlic and tomatoes, reached from one end of the long table to the other; a sumptuous feast was the perfect pretext for a family gathering.
Paula sat at the head of the table. Streaks of grey now lined her black hair, and the pronounced lines around her eyes had grown along with her family. It was an easy sacrifice. Her youth was long gone, why should her beauty matter? As Paula gazed at her grandsons, now twelve and fifteen respectively, her eyes burned with distinct pride. An expression of smug contentment stole across her face.
“So,” she started, turning towards the newest addition to her table, her nephew Dino, “Where is your new girl, eh? She not want to come visit us?”
The young man shifted uncomfortably in his chair. “Well, I guess she could come by, if you wouldn’t mind her staying with us for a night…” Dino looked down at his pasta, twisting his fork around repeatedly.
“Of course, Dino. She come stay, we cook her food, she never will leave, eh?” She laughed. It was a rich, throaty sound, unrefined and genuine.
“Fornicators!” Paula charged down the front steps, her sturdy legs moving swiftly. Age had not worn down her vigor; she raised her arm above her head as she ran, brandishing a single kitchen pan. “Fornicators!”
Dino scampered down the drive with his girlfriend in tow, a good twenty feet ahead of Paula. The scantily young woman, half dressed in the brisk night air, glanced fearfully behind her. Bare skin gleamed in the moonlight, a blight on the landscape that only fueled Paula’s burning rage.
“You fornicate in my home! You no longer welcome, fornicators!” Her mouth opened in a snarl. Abruptly, she stopped, watching their figures retreat into the darkness. She placed one hand across her heaving chest, and tilted her head upwards, gazing at the stars. “Pah, Jesus help you.”

This is very good. Most of the stories you read here are written by 14 year olds with a vampire fixation. It was nice to read something of quality for a change.

3Question : How difficult is it to quit drug and cure drug addiction problem?
My brother had drug problem for at least 10+ years. He used the heavy stuff like cocaine and other stuff I don’t even know of.
The doctor gave him medication to clean his system, and he has been sober for 2 years.
Is it possible for somebody to cure their heavy drug addiction problem in short 2 years? What’s the odd that my brother’s problem is cured?

If he has genuinely been sober for two years, than I would say that it’s possible. My mom used to be a heavy heroin user and she has been sober for upwards of 18 years with no relapses.
It of course depends on the willpower of the person in question, but if he has the right coping skills and is determined not to go back to it then he can be “cured” of his addiction. I put cured in quotation marks because there have been recent studies that show that there’s a genetic predisposition to becoming an addict. Likely he’ll always run the risk of relapsing, but if he can stay away from situations that put him into contact with the drugs and have the willpower not to do them if he is in those situations, I’d say your brother would be okay.

How to help a roommate with an eating disorder?
5Question : How to help a roommate with an eating disorder?
I am writing in hopes that your answer to this question will help other readers. A few years ago, when I was in college, I discovered that my college roommate was bulimic. My boyfriend and I found evidence in the mornings that she had been vomiting on a daily basis; she also developed weird eating habits (at 6 A.M., she would wake up and buy two pints of ice cream and eat it all, and then not eat for the rest of the day). We didn’t know how to address the problem, and were afraid of hurting her. When we called the Health Service, they took the “my best friend is bulimic” line to suggest that I was bulimic instead! I didn’t want to become the food “hall monitor” — are you eating? What did you eat today? etc. — but we tried to include her in healthy meals.
Eventually, some other stress factors in her life calmed down and her binge/purge behavior seemed to subside. However, I’ve always regretted that I couldn’t attack this situation head-on. Do you have any advice for people that might be in a similar situation?

If you care about someone, never be afraid to tell them how you feel about their problem. Offer them help in whatever way you can. This is assuming of course, that they want your help. If they don’t, the most giving thing that you can do is to simply let them know that you’re there for them when they need you.

I have a close friend of mine who’s almost gone insane because of heroin addiction. His family is now considering sending him to Singapore, a supposedly drug-free nation, to keep him off heroin. Is that a good idea?

No! “sending him to Singapore” is certainly NOT a good or responsible thing to do!
You need to get professional help. If you are in the UK, call the National Drugs Helpline on 0800 77 66 00. There is tons of professional help he can get, including counselling, rehab, and Methadone prescriptions to help get him off the Heroin. This is all free in the UK, but if you are not in the UK there will probably be some similar equivalent in your own country.
