Answer by divine intervention
Well, I was Type 2 Diabetic prior to getting pregnant and am now insulin dependent thanks to the baby. My doc told me that although Glucerna is supposed to help control your sugars, it really isn’t effective. If you check the boxes, you’ll see Carbs + Sugars are quite high. Cheerios has a better reaction for diabetics!
I just think it’s an overpriced “specialty” brand that’s trying to cash in on the Diabetic Nation. I stick with my grilled chicken, fruits, nuts, seafood, etc…If you eat cereal, make sure it’s nearly sugar free. I use bananas or strawberries to sweeten it.
Honestly Glucerna is just an expensive product, that doesn’t really do what it claims. I have gestational diabetes, and I have seen the dietitian, and they just tell you to watch your carb, and sugar intake. You can still eat pretty much what you normally would, but have to cut back on things like potatoes, rice, breads and rolls, sweets, and things high in sugar. The dietitian told me that I needed to eat more frequently, but smaller meals. I am supposed to eat breakfast – like a piece of toast w/butter, and an egg, a mid morning snack like gram crackers and 1tsp peanut butter then lunch like a turkey sandwich on whole wheat bread with a piece of cheese and light mayo with carrot sticks, and say an apple, then an afternoon snack of say 6 crackers with a piece of cheese and dinner would be like grilled chicken with a salad, broccoli, and orange slices, and a bedtime snack of say crackers. You need to watch how much fruit and fruit juice you eat because of the natural sugars in them, like bananas are high in natural sugar so you are only supposed to eat ½ of one. These are just examples of what they gave me. I had to cut back on my fruit juice, because that is all I drank. You can control your sugars better with diet and exercise, than a product like Glucerna, and regular food is cheaper too! Good Luck!!
