Question : What is the proper dosage of thyroid replacement hormone for cats?
Please help me. I have a 4 year old cat that has been diagnosed with hypothyroidism. His only symptom is paralysis. He cannot walk. His T4 count was below the minimum and the vet put him on hormone replacement meds. They are not working and I do not now what to do. I am looking for a miracle. Can you help me?

call your vet. explain the situation to him/her and he/she will probably adjust the dosage. where i work, we have this problem a lot. good luck

Hyperthyroidism can lead to heart failure. Heart failure can lead to a blood clot that stops at the end of the spine cutting off all circulation to the lower extremities. This causes paralysis and the breakdown of all living tissue that is not receiving blood. I am concerned as to why you don’t know the dose on a Rx. Where did you get your meds? Please don’t try to self medicate at the expense of your cat! I know you are only trying to help, but you need to call a vet! There are emergency vets open 24/7 for this kind of thing. I hope for the best!

The dosage depends on many factors – your cats weight and build, his precise blood values and symptoms, etc. Talk to your vet again, or get a second opinion if for some reason you don’t trust the first. No one can help you with such a question over the internet, not even a vet could – it’s necessary to see the cat “in person” and have all the info available.

Either go back to the vet or another one and explain the problem they are the best ones to help because your cat may either need to get it ‘s dosage increased or it could need different medication altogether so you should really get you cat looked at again asap.
