Hi,
I’ve had both: I’m having the professional procedure done for the last year (after a full treatment of 10 series, now i’m doing it for maintenance one every 3 months) and meanwhile I’m using at home kits to help maintain the results.
This is what I’ve noticed: There are some differences between the at-home and the professional procedure.
These are the main differences between the two options:
•Professional microderm is performed by a specialist who uses hand-held machines, similar to sandblasters, to spray and circulate high-pressure crystal flow (aluminum oxide, sodium chloride or sodium bicarbonate) onto your skin.
•At home kits contain a special cream with micro crystals that has to be massaged into the skin with a special applicator or your own fingers.
•Many people prefer the comfort of knowing a professional (doctor, aesthetician, qualified nurse) is performing the procedure rather than rubbing foam against their face with bare hands;
•Due to the precision and depth of the abrasion, professional microabrasion is more effective in reduction of fine wrinkles and scars, and removal of stretch marks and age spots;
•At home microderma is a lot cheaper (a professional sessions cost $ 75-200, a home kit costs around $ 1-3 per session);
The bottom line is that the professional treatment is a lot more effective than at-home products, but they do work too. The best at home kits come from Neutrogena, Susan Lucci and Loreal.
Good luck!
