Question : What are some of the risks of surrogacy for everyone involved? What are some impacts it has on society?
I am very interested in the topic of surrogacy and compiling a report on it, however it is illegal in my state so my resources are limited. I was wondering if anyone knew of any impacts surrogacy has on the family, society and in the future? And any ethical issues and risks involved too, or if anyone has had an experience with surrogacy I would love to hear about it.

There was a recent new report of a couple hiring a surrogate and the surrogate keeping the baby. The judge ruled that since there was no written contract that the surrogate is able to keep the baby. So, unless you have a tightly sealed contract and your state allows it, then the risk is that you will not receive the child that you are after. The surrogate’s risks are becoming emotionally distraught after carrying a child for 9 months and bonding with that child for those nine months then just letting it go, similar to mothers who give their children up for adoption.

The impacts on society are great and become greater as more people chose this method of child bearing. There are many children waiting to be adopted, I think that people should adopt rather than have a surrogate. As more surrogates are hired, the less children in our own communities are adopted. Those children deserve loving homes. Ethically, I feel that those who wish to surrogate should at least try to adopt.
