Should I buy a postal scale if I am going to get serious about selling on Ebay?
Question : Should I buy a postal scale if I am going to get serious about selling on Ebay?
I just recently held my first auction on Ebay and it sold with 9 bids! Wow! I can see how people can get addicted to this, LOL. However, I would like to avoid long lines at the post office. Should I buy a postal scale and weigh things at home? What do you do, experienced Ebayers? Thanks!

Yes. Definitely buy a scale. And if you print your postage from home, DC is free with Priority Mail and .18 otherwise. If you pay at the PO it is quite a bit more.
A scale is a great item to have–especially if you can link up your computer & shipping printer so you can weigh and mail the items from your house. You just have to let your mail carrier know what you are doing (selling on eBay) and where to look for any packages that are ready to be mailed.
But in the mean time, check to see if your post office has a self-serve mailing center. It’s great because you can bring in the package and get a weight and price–always use a zip code on the other side of the country than you for an estimate.
My post office has access to the self serve mailing area 24/7. It can be used for 1st class and Priority mail–NOT media. (I’m not sure about parcel post.)
But the BEST place to ask this question is ON eBay’s community page. In fact, if you have a question or problem, check there–or ask a question. You’ll get answers from MANY people with MANY opinions!
1st link—-just put in the word SCALE in the search bar and read some of the answers!!
2nd & 3rd link—look over all the areas and click on some that could help! (Like packing & shipping.)
And, here’s MY hint: TRACK everything. Build it into your shipping cost and let buyers know! Cuts down on buyers who claim that they didn’t receive an item. Keep good records on that tracking.
Have fun on eBay!
