Should I bring my three year old to a pediatric dentist or our family dentist?
Question : Should I bring my three year old to a pediatric dentist or our family dentist?
My husband and I have been seeing the same dentist for about 10 years and absolutely love him. However, I am not sure if I should bring my three year old to see him (he does see children in his practice), or if it would be better for her to see a pediatric dentist? Thanks for any input or advice.

If you love the office then take him there at least at first. If he is apprehensive or uncooperative they may then refer you to a pediatric dentist. I am a dental hygienist and we see lots of kids in a regular practice, most of them do just fine.

if you’re happy with your dentist then i see no reason to go anywhere else. I’ve been going to my dentist office for over 20 years and i’ve started taking my 3 year old and she does just fine. Most dental practices know how to deal with small children. At least mine does. If you know the people in the office as you’ve been going for so long already they might even ask eventually why or when you’re going to bring your child to the dentist…then you might have to explain why you’re bringing them elsewhere. For me personally i would find that awkward.

Ask your primary Dentist if he can suggest a Pediatric Dentist for your daughter. My daughters went to a children only Dentist when they were small and was treated very well. A funny thing both my grown daughters work in the dental field. I would of never guessed that as their career when they were small. If you feel comfortable with your current family dentist them by all means stay with them. Start now saving for the braces, she might need later down the road. Having great teeth helps to have great health. Good smiles to you and yours:)

We have never taken our twin daughter to pediatric dentist she has always seen our dentist and this is fine, but of course Thomas whom has autism has to go to special needs dentist, i think your child would be fine seeing your dentist that way he will always see the same dentist as you, sometimes they let me make the appointments together Kylie is fine and has been going too the same one as us since she was 2

Growing up my mom tried t both ways. I can tell you that the only thing that was better about the pediatric dentist was they had more toys in the waiting room. We ended up going to the family dentist and it is now the same dentist I take my kids to. The pediatric dentist charged more for the same services and the family dentist was just as good if not better because he had known my parents longer and had a working relationship with them. He is great with my kids.
