Question : Nasal Spray?
Why is it that you should not use vicks sinex…etc. type OTC nasal sprays for more than 3 days. I have a minor cold for 4 days with congestion and i want to continue using the medicine. Are there any side effects? and…is it ok to use it for a a day or 2 longer? if not, how long should i rest before continuing the use of the medicine?

Nasal spray can become addictive and when you stop using it the congestion triples; in addition, it can cause your blood pressure to rise.

Tons of medicines say that you should not continue use past a certain number of days without doctor’s orders. It’s a legal thing I think drug companies have to put on there just in case some idiot has like sinus cancer and thinks Vicks is going to cure it.
I don’t want to make you OD on Vicks, but in my eyes it’s an OTC medicine that is relatively safe. So if you’re getting relief from it, then I’d continue using it.

The reason that don’t over use it is because your nasal passages get use to having that nasal spay to oopen it for them and they quit working letting the nasal spay do the work for them making u become dependent on it. That is why I just never use it to begin with. IF you go the the Dr he can prescribe some some nasal spays that have steriods in them that aren’t addictive. Hope this helps!
