Question : Is home air duct cleaning really worth doing, are there proven facts?
Some reports say duct cleaning doesn’t provide cleaner air. Is it a waste of money?

It is a matter of relativeness.
I f your home is kept spotless like Monk on TV, there are no carpets, pets, no kids, there is an electrostatic filter on the furnace-A/C and windows and doors are kept closed; it might make a difference.
If your house is decades old, it might make a difference. Build up over many decades if filters have not been cleande or changed may make this a good option.
If your house is new, it might make a difference. Construction dirt and debris especially at the vents. Maybe just taking off vents and cleaning is enough.
Real world Test :
Sit in a room where the light of the setting sunlight is entering through a window. How many dust particles do you see floating in the reflected light?
Cleaning the ducts does not remove the dirt floating in the room!
Now will it matter to pay out the expense?
The decision is yours.

I worked for a company in wisconsin for 4 years, cleaning ducts was our sideline.You would be amazed at the dust and dirt that we would get out of some ducts.Besides the health benefits (in my opinion) it decreases fire risks,increases efficiency output.We rean a large vacuum truck hose to the plenum of furnace, and used high pressure to blow down each duct.Then we ran a skipper, a high pressure hose up each duct that blew back pressure.We would check the ducts to make sure they were clean.We could suck up bricks with that thing.

Sometimes replacing the filter regularly and closing the vents when not in use helps. you can get hi quality filters
I recently replaced all my ducts when I replaced my heater, and they were disgusting inside.
I dont know how much they can Vacume out.The filters work on the intake side so if they are going thru nasty ducts they will be blowing dust. - Comment Feed for this Post
Are you serious ? Its common sense, have you ever took a look with a flashlight into your air returns. Do you have pets that shed hair ? Some companys can really charge way to much for this service but its like that in everything you just have to deal with someone you trust. Yes it has been proven faxually but like I said it’s common sense. I have seen video of duct work in the avarage home it’s ugly. If you live in a humid cliamate and figure moisture in combination with organic soils it’s the perfect breeding ground for microbial growth. Ducts have a lack of light, their the right tempeture and with moisture the only thing to stop microbial growth is the fact that there is air moving through the system but that dosn’t happen all the time. So my answer is yea it needs to be done. It’s part of keeping a healthy home. Don’t forget to clean your carpet as well it is a giant air fillter itself.
