I’m taking a trip to Vegas: Where can I buy Insuline and diabetic supplies?
Question : I’m taking a trip to Vegas: Where can I buy Insuline and diabetic supplies?
I’m from Mexico City. I’m taking a vacation with a diabetic patient . We’re carrying all the medical supplies for this concern. However, I’m curious about the need of a prescription in case an emergency shows up and we have to buy something else while being there. Thanks. BTW, do we need to follow any protocol on customs at the airport?

Check with the airline as far as the protocol goes. Not sure how foreign Rx’s work in the U.S. but check with Walgreen’s on that, they’ll have the answer and Vegas is full of Walgreen’s.
Have a nice trip.
Oh honey, there are pharmacies on every block in Las Vegas. I’m a pharmacist and I work in Las Vegas. Finding a pharmacy is not a problem. If there is an emergency and she needs to go to a doctor, there are hospitals and tons of minute-clinics or quick-care clinics (note: even though they say “quick-care” or “minute-clinic”, you’re still going to wait hours if you’re a walk-in). Check the phone book or internet if you need to find a place.
All prescription medications need a prescription written by a licensed doctor. If you bring a prescription from Mexico, it CANNOT be filled in Las Vegas unless the doctor is licensed in the US (doctor must have an American DEA number)
If you need insulin, you may be able to buy it without a prescription. Humulin R, Humulin N, and Humulin 70/30 can be purchased without a prescription. You just go to a pharmacy and ask for it. However, if she needs any other type of insulin, she must have a prescription.
If the diabetic patient is not on stable therapy and you think there might be some problems, you may want to purchase the patient some health insurance for the duration of your trip. Health care here is obscenely expensive and there is no break for tourists.
As far as customs go, call the airline and ask them for the most accurate prescription.
