Question : If I’m on my parents insurance, can I go see an eating disorder specialist without them knowing?
I’m 20, but I’m still on my parents insurance and would want it to cover part of it if possible. But I don’t want my parents to know because my mom would be mad that I’m sick.
my mom seriously will be mad, i used to have anorexia and shed get so mad at me everyday. dont pay attention to that part though, im only wondering about the insurance thing

First of all, your mom isn’t going to be mad. I’m sure she loves you very much and will support your decision to get help. But to answer your question, yes as long as you have your card so they will bill your insurance company. There is a thing called patient doctor privileges. Your doctor by law cant tell your parents about it but I think you should. You will be surprised by how she reacts. Good luck.
I thought that when they bill your insurance company, your parents get a summary of it and they’d find out. That’s how it normally works, at least for my insurance, but maybe it’s different if you ask the doctor to keep your information confidential. Anyway, I know what you mean about having something wrong with you and your mom being mad about it. My psychologist thinks I have depression and my mom keeps telling me that I don’t have it and that nothing’s wrong.
