Has anyone had a dog develop an enlarged prostate even though he has been neutered?
Question : Has anyone had a dog develop an enlarged prostate even though he has been neutered?
I have a 15-year-old neutered Peke who has been diagnosed with an enlarged prostate. The vet is calling back Thursday with more information, but from what I have read, it seems that the prostate is mostly removed with neutering. In what case would my dog then have a prostate problem? Thanks for any info you have!

saw it on e-vet interns on television, wasn’t pretty, but possible, so hopefully he can get sured without surgery… Good luck.
The prostate is not removed during the neutering process. Only the testicles are removed. Many people don’t realize that prostate cancer is actually more common in neutered males than those that are intact. An enlarged prostate on a dog as old as yours should get an ultrasound and/or a biopsy to rule out cancer.
