Can Antidepressants Cause Violence?
antidepressant drugs
What your Doctor isn’t Telling You. Psychiatry vs. Physical Medicine Dr. Moria Dolan, Executive Director for the Medical Accountability Network discusses the link between antidepressants medications and suicide, violence and school shootings. Seung-hui Cho w/ the Virginia Tech massacre adds to a long list of incidents over the last 15 to 20 years including Columbine and Red Lake High, She also discusses antidepressant drugs like like Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, Luvox, Celexa, Lexapro, Effexor or Wellbutrin. These medications are known to cause adverse events which can contribute to violence such as hallucinations, agitation, emotional instability, violence, paranoia, etc. These adverse events are clearly labeled on the FDA approved prescribing information leaflet for the medication. These labels often contain confusing medical terms and Dr. Dolan explains in plain English what these adverse events means. Although the psychiatric advertising jargon of the chemical imbalance in the brain theory is widely promoted, Dr. Dolan points out that there are no biological markers for mental disorders. There are no physical tests done to measure someone’s brain chemistry. Depression is widely associated with the neurotransmitter serotonin however, there is no standard by which one can measure an abnormal serotonin level. Additionally, SSRI (Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) as well as other psychiatric drugs show an affect in the brain during brain scans whereas psychiatric …

keep in mind here that if you go to a shrink and spill your guts for any one reason or another, and that shrink prescribes you pills/in most cases antidepressants/ lets say your a veteran and you go in for post dramatic war syndrome, you are now instantly labeled mentally unstable. just something to keep in mind when watching the main stream media when they report on shootings and things.u see the media is making a kiling no pun intended off big pharma, notice the frequent advertising for pills

the mainstream media also uses these school shootings, weather school or else where, to help push for gun banning laws. its called order out of chaos. they are supplying the suicide pills to promote violence in otherwise good ppl full well knowing. so they can turn and say we are all bad ppl capable of this psycho activity to further take our rites, and u know how bad they want us to be a disarmed nation, to further dismantle what we have left.

My doctor tried many different medications to try to help me with my anxiety and depression. She thinks I may be treatment resistant. Wellbutrin made me angry all the time and my wife was on the verge of throwing me out of the house by the time my follow up appointment came around. I would be angry for no reason and would physically shake because of that anger.

No, you cannot definitively say they cause violence because you are misinterpreting a correlation for a causation. In addition this logical fallacy, you confuse a necessary for a sufficient condition. Antidepressants are not sufficient to justify violence as there could very well be an outside element. Further, you do not know the sequence of events. Was the person violent before they went on antidepressants and they were not effective? Think next time.

The drug itself does not cause violence but a doctor forcing you to take the medications by verbal persuasion – i.e. you have a choice, take the meds or be committed to hospital.
Being forced to take something will cause untold anger and, aggresiveness.
In my case, hitting the wall beside the head of the doctor or staff. I don’t have it in my to hit a person.

I’m taking Celexa and I’ve been on it for 6 weeks. After my first 2 weeks, I noticed a huge difference, but it only effected me for 2 days, after that, I still suffer anxiety to this day. I’m only taking them on a daily basis now to see if anything happens, and so far nothing.
Honestly, all this Zoloft, Celexa, Ativan etc. just seems to me as if I’m living a life parallell to the movie “Flowers for Algernon”. The only thing I notice about the whole thing now is that my memory is going.

Hey “soxfan”, stick to analysing sports . Studies show that people on antidepressants experience agitation and extreme hostility , often out of proportion to any events in the person’s life .Even if someone had violent tendencies before antidepressants , they will be much angrier and more out of control on them . -

Some posters claim they cant quit because they experience sleepless ness headaches and other synptoms when they try quitting . Sleeplessness , headaches and other symptoms are withdrawal symptoms, not proof that these drugs work . The drugs cause sleep disturbances . If you are off these drugs for several months , you will feel better than when you took them . If you had never take these poisons , you would have been better off .

@inkey2 Thats pretty scary. The results of this drug are self evident simply by typing in murders caused by Prozac. While it may help many people, it’s quite obivious that it also hurts many people. These doctors have little understanding of what these drugs will do in all cases, and they don’t care, it’s about the money. Last month I went to the abandoned Weston State Hospital, they did lobotomies there in the 1950′s, some of the ice picks are still there.

I am so sick of this crap!! If the media spent more time on reporting the good that these drugs do for 1000′s of people and how they change lifes in a positive way instead of only focusing on the negative maybe people would not swallow this stuff so easily. By the way I take 3 psych meds, yes 3!One of which is Zoloft, and I have not tried to kill anybody all week!!

So when I went through withdrawel symptoms when I went off of IV Morphine after a bad auto accident that means that the Morphine didn’t work? I was just imagining that it took away the horrific pysical pain that I was in?
The problem with SSRI’s is that they are overprescribed, not that they don’t work. Original projection for the analogue was that it would only help > 10 percent of those suffering SEVERE depression, usually in conjunction to other mental disorders. -
