Are sugar drinks better for you than diet drinks?
Question : Are sugar drinks better for you than diet drinks?
Given insulin, diabetes, obesity etc….what is preferable for the body if you had to chose one? Drinks sweetened with sucralose, aspartame, etc, or to just have soda’s or fresh orange juice because they’re natural is the decision I’m trying to make. For example a glass of natural orange juice might have 30g of sugar (8 teaspons – more than a soda of the same serving). On the other hand it is natural. I’ve heard that artificial sweeteners raise insulin levels (anyone have scientific studies?)….so if artificial sweeteners spike insulin, what’s the whole point? And does it mean diabetics shouldn’t drink diet drinks? Problem in this area is there’s lots of information saying artificial sweeteners are safe…lots of info saying they’re toxic and will kill you. However, sugar at the levels consumed in the modern diet isn’t good for you either. But is the sugar preferable anyway?

I have a solution for this problem, don’t drink the stuff. Drinking nothing but water has never hurt anybody.
Sugar is probably the biggest killer out there. There is a HUGE list of health problems associated from repeated insulin spikes. Since everything went “fat free” 25 years ago people have been getting fatter and more unhealthy. Processed foods made with white flour and all the fat and fiber removed are just as bad as sugar because they cause the same insulin spikes. When they took the fat out they just added more sugar to make up for the taste loss from the fat. Aspartame might not be good for you, but sucralose is considered safe and even if it was a little detrimental to your health, it is no where near as bad as sugar is. The bottom line is all you have to do is switch from one to the other to know which one is better for you. I felt like crap constantly when I was overdosing on sugar and now that I switched to sucralose I feel great all the time. It’s a no brainer which one is harder on your body.
Edit: Not to mention that I got fat eating sugar and I’m ripped now that I don’t eat sugar or processed foods that spike insulin. You won’t see many bodybuilders eating much sugar, but you will see them putting sucralose on their oatmeal. Believe me, bodybuilders know what will make the fat and what won’t. If atificial sweeteners caused insulin spikes, it would cause fat gain, but it obviously doesn’t. Anyone (or study) that says it does cause fat gain is neglecting to consider all the crap food they are eating as the cause.
