check out a lift on another vehicle – maybe that is just how they sound.
Depending on the model and design, it could be the hydraulic piston or motor. Cold weather makes most machines noisier as well.
Grab yourself a can of a good spray lube (I prefer TriFlow) and hit one moving thing. Try it and see if the noise changes. Try again until the noise changes and that is probably the place that needs attention.
By ‘noise changes’, I mean that the noise will not necessarily go away- it may even get worse for a while, but the change indicates that this is probably where the noise is coming from.
When you find the place, figure out the RIGHT lube for it- the manual should help. Avoid WD40 for the long-term answer- it is designed to do a lot of things, but not be a good long-term lube.
If the noise is rubbing metal, something may be bent or misaligned. Lube helps for the short-term here, but getting it fixed right helps the most.
