I’m not sure if there are games for addiction recovery, but I know that “playing games” on the Internet is a “release” for anything that you are going through. It gives you an opportunity to focus on something that you enjoy and at the same time, gives you something to work towards (beating the score above you). Try gamerival.com, I practically live on that site when I’m not on Yahoo Answers and I get great satisfaction and enjoyment from it. You have a chance to challenge others, put someone on your buddy list and even interact with other “game players”. It’s a healthy way to get the “high” from playing, and at the same time making friends. In my opinion you don’t need to connect with games played by people in “recovery” cause they are already “game players”. You need to connect with a site that has “real people” that play games for enjoyment. If you connect with a “buddy”, tell them your story and maybe they can help you overcome; don’t hide behind your addiction, be up front and honest with it and you will find the help you need. If you want to get started, you can find me on gamerival.com as karolinamagic52 or southernmagic. I’ll be more than glad to help you. Main thing is being open and honest with people and give them a chance to know you and your “shortcomings”. Give people a chance and you will find that there is more support out there than you ever thought possible.
I, myself, am in recovery. I’m a recovering alcoholic and addict. I also work with teenagers in recovery…..helping them work the steps and what not. I don’t know of any sites that post games such as that for printing, but you might try your local Intergroup for suggestions. If you would like you can also contact me at my yahoo address (faegirl1976) and I can give you several things that I have done with my kids to get them started on the steps. But we do all kinds od things, like I let them design their own T-shirts with the group name (that they came up with) and allowed them to vote for a group conscience and stuff like that……but I am always trying new things that I make up along the way to fit recovery into their life (after all it isn’t enough we work the program – we have to live it). They know I have been where they are so they trust me. I will get my papers together (if the local intergroup doesn’t help) in the case you contact me.
Thank for your work……it is great that we have people like you who are willing to give a little time to help those in need. Keep up the good work.
