What’s the big deal with being bulimic? Can I fight treatment?
Question : What’s the big deal with being bulimic? Can I fight treatment?
My parents want to have me put in the hospital for having bulimia.
I don’t get it- I could stop at any time if I wanted to and it’s not like I’m sick or anything. It’s not even that weird when you think about it, I don’t get why they’re being so evil about it. Really, they’re being so mean and horrible. I chose to do this so I can stop on my own.
Do I have any say in this? I’m 17 years old, do I have to listen to my parents/ doctors if I can prove that I don’t need treatment?

You are still a minor – tough luck.
And you might just be too dumb to realize what you are doing to yourself. People die from bulimia. Your parents are worried about you – and they still have control.
Even if you were older they could have you committed to a hospital if they can prove you are a danger to yourself.
it really depends how serious the condition is – you can be sectioned to hospital or can get some therapy and hospital sessions so you dont have to go in and stay at hospital.
if you think you can stop anytime have you tried? i always used to say that and with anorexia etc. but in truth i really couldnt.
it can lead to depression and harder to break out of, your parents are only trying to do what is best for you but you need to be assessed first prior to having hospital support/therapy/sectioned etc.
you do have a say – you wont be able to get over it if you dont want to – it has to be in your mind that you want this and want to stop, otherwise it wont help at all and can lead to further lies and a deeper spiral of the disorder or another mental illness.
you will be assessed by doctors which is the only way you can prove you do or dont need treatment,
good luck and try to talk to your parents..
