My grandmother on my mom’s side had Alzheimers before she died. In her earlier stages, she exhibited strange childlike behaviors. Then, the disease incapacitated her. She was unable to function independently, speak, walk, feed herself, dress herself, above all, she could no longer live a typical life. She lived with my aunt and uncle under intense frequent care until she died in 1998 at the age of 83. Losing her mother tore my mother apart.
