Question : Opinion: Do you think I need to go into residential care for my eating disorder or just see a shrink?
Okay so I’m going to condense the story a bit for you. I was at the Renfrew treatment center’s day program ( 5 days a week, 2 meals a day, outpatient program) for a while for my anorexia/bulimia. Although it gave me some insight, it didn’t stop my bulimia (I couldn’t properly restrict there, despite my best efforts). I stepped down to IOP ( 3 nights a week, 1 meal a day, outpatient program) and my anorexia flared up, as did my bulimia, alternatively. Well after a huge falling out with the center they told me that I could not come back unless I did their residential program. I’ve been alternatively restricting and binging/purging since I left. I’ve been considering residential, but the problem is that I am 5’1.5 and 138lbs (whereas when I started and was 115lbs). I feel like if I go into residential with all of those really thin girls I will literally be like the gorilla in the room. What do you think I should do?
residential eating disorder programs

There is nothing more important than your life and if you keep this up you will lose it. It would be the best decision that you may ever make for yourself to be treated inpatient. Inpatients are very understanding and are not going to look at you the way that you think. They have learned skills that you haven’t that can help you. It would be invaluable for you to participate inpatient. I hope that you will make the right decision so that you can have the ability to live a happy and productive life as you deserve.
