Need possible treatment options for a sick cat.. weight loss, anorexia, lethargy?

I have a book that lists these symptoms for Hairballs –

Vomiting foam, vomiting many hairballs – more than 1 or 2 a week.
Diarrhea or constipaption
Bad breath
Excess shedding (other than spring or autumn)
Unsuccessful vomiting attempts
Lethargy, loss of appetite.

The book lists these symptoms for Kidney Disease:

Frequent, copious drinking & urination
Colorless, watery urine
Lethargy, depression
Skinniness
Greasy fur, dandruff
Body odor
Edema (water retention in tissues)
Gouty condition
Seeking out warmth
Blood in urine
Dehydration
Hiding, turning face to the wall, sitting with head over water dish

For Liver Disease and Liver Damage, it lists:

Lethargy, or aggression
Weight loss
Random wetting or spraying, milky urine, diarrhea, light colored (fatty) stool
Digestive upsets, vomiting foam or yellow liguid, distended abdomen
Yellow eye whites (often does not occur until late in the disease)
Recurrent allergic reactions
Tendency to pick up fleas and ringworm

For Weight Loss, it lists:

Skinniness, boniness
Nervousness, easy startling, trembling
Copious drinking
Refusing all food – even favorite treats – or eating only a lick or two
Recurrent health problems (eye, ear, respiratory, and so on, infections, such as ringworm)
Porous bones that break easily, hip dysplasia
Seeking wamth and seclusion, easily chilly
Excessive shedding and/or dandruff
Tooth & gum problems

Additional symptoms (to Weight Loss) for Anorexia:

Refusal to eat or only eating small amounts
Urination and defecation slow almost to a stop

Additional symptoms (to Weight Loss) for Malabsorption:

Voracious appetite but skinny body
Diarrhea or constipation

Meanwhile, if I were your friend — and I am NOT a doctor — but I would offer the cat tuna fish with some (pure, nothing added) cranberry juice and some lemon in it. If it eats that, I would slowly start adding a little over-cooked, chopped pasta and, perhaps, some slightly mashed peas… Then change the peas to Large Butter beans (just a few), mashed… [Mix the pasta & vegetables into the tuna. Your friend might try mackeral, as well, as a base.] Improving the cat’s diet, in general, will be (I think) a great help — if you can get him back eating again. The cranberry juice (CJ), I feel, is very important if there is blood in the stools and/or urine. [Add a little less than a capful to a 6 ounce can of tuna.]

Inexpensive, dry cat foods can take quite a toll on cats’ insides — especially kidneys & liver. This is just my opinion. The CJ will help balance the blood and clean toxins out of the body… It will also help kill infections and parasites. If the cat has worms, the lemon will be useful. The tuna (or other fish) should keep him interested in eating.

CJ can be found at grocery stores and health food stores. The least expensive I’ve found has been at Wal-Mart for about $ 4.
